We need one man to go and kill Putin. Even if it is Boris Johnson, turn up to 'peace talks', arm Boris and Boris shoots Putin dead. Gets out of there swift and then real peace talks can happen.

Putin gone, Britain united, Boris would be more popular than Churchill.
He’d probably do a Cheddar Bob before he got the gun out.

😂😂😂😂

He’d end up shooting himself in the leg before he raised the gun sights.

Well apparently there have been 16 nuclear close calls in my lifetime from 1956 to 1995.

I suppose we grew up with it as a constant threat but I can understand younger people experiencing it for the first time to be afraid.

I don't think we will see nukes fired though.
I certainly understand it, I read and watched when the wind blows repeatedly in my early teens and had a recurring apocalypse dream that was weirdly benign because everyone was okay but glowed and we couldn’t leave our houses. It was unsettling but I suppose I was used to it and it seemed quite normal.

trident range is (according to wiki) 7600km to 12500km depending on load

at full load that puts just about everything in Russia in range of the west coast of Scotland

everywhere in Russia is within 10000km of either coast of America (so a medium load)

SSBN's dont need to leave home port to wreck everything, they only choose to because its our doctrine to hide out somewhere safe, and Russian doctrine to hide out in their bastions in the Barents or Kara Seas

Exactly, so the threat is you don’t know where they are not so much what they are capable of. They could be sitting off Vladivostok or anywhere else.

Ie: they can’t easily be targeted like their home port can, or an airfield could.

The point is there is more to nuclear capability than missile silos on land.
You can stick a nuclear warhead on an artillery shell.

If Putin was minded to get back at NATO countries surely he would go with a cyber attack of some description before getting anywhere near nuclear ?

NHS was targeted a few years ago from a cyber attack I think ( might have been from ukraine national? )

I hope not, but I’ve been thinking about my doomsday plan for many years….. if something were to kick off whilst I’m at work in Newcastle, and if sufficient warning time, I can make it in about five minutes to either St James or Central Metro stations. First choice would be St James, tunnels would offer a bit protection. A lot of concrete! Also Haymarket Metro is also option for duck and cover, end of platform (jesmond-Monument) there is an old archive storage room, pretty solid.

I have a pal who served on one Sub, I asked him what was the longest time it spent underwater, I was shocked when he said almost 6 months.
