they have signed up - its called the NATO treaty

whether they'd fulfil their obligations is the actual question
I know what they've signed up to. I don't think the latter question is much of one.

Absolutely we would/will.
I can tell you what the reaction in the US would be if we went to fight a war to save Estonia, a country 85% (just a guess, but maybe an undershoot) of Americans have never heard of.

Dresden was us if I remember rightly...justified because we didn't start the war, maybe...it's all madness.
dont wish to derail stuff...but

different times, guided missiles were very much in their infancy so you fought the war with the equipment you had

Dresden - largest railcrossroads that had never previously been targeted
was being used to transfer troops to the defence of Berlin
was attacked at the behest of Allied commanders
and the USAAF attacked the place the day after the RAF

But what he's saying is not without a basis of truth.

If you watch only British MSM you will only see our side of it.

If you watch Arabian/Asian news stations you will see another side.
I will listen to the the words from the UN Sec Gen

"I must say, President Putin: In the name of humanity bring your troops back to Russia. In the name of humanity do not allow to start in Europe what could be the worst war since the beginning of the century, with consequences not only devastating for Ukraine, not only tragic for the Russian Federation, but with an impact we cannot even foresee in relation to the consequences for the global economy in a moment when we are emerging from the COVID [pandemic] and so many developing countries absolutely need to have space for the recovery which would be very, very difficult, with the high prices of oil, with the end of exports of wheat from Ukraine, and with the rising interest rates caused by instability in international markets.

This conflict must stop - now. Thank you very much."

Nah, it's ok...the details of the firestorm chilled me as a kiid, and still does.

Would there be a different reaction if it was sold as being there to oppose Russia rather than protecting a small country the public have never heard of?

Depends when he targets them doesn't it. As long as they aren't doing anything he is going to continue to push buttons to see how much he can take before they act.

Plus the more it's ignored the more powerful they can grow. Also if China decide to act on Taiwan then that will start to spread the US out and things can escalate further.

No one wants a war but I do think this is a case of act now or face a bigger threat down the road.
The Americans could take on both the Russian and Chinese navies with just a fraction of what they have.

Pretty sure our military are on stand by, and stuff is being readied just in case. More military aircraft flying over my place than I have ever seen.
