Running Thread 2026

Felt bad that I was in London drinking over the weekend so forced myself out tonight , glad I did as managed the furthest I've ever done which is 25k

Maybe slow but over the moon that I can actually see progress
You got any races booked on or just running to see how far you can go?

1st bimble out tonight after pulling a hammy at the Brass Monkey ½ Marathon then just as I was ready to start again I had a gout attack. Now only 9½ weeks to Manc Marathon so it looks like going for a time is out of the window & it's just going to be about getting round without walking any of it.

I must admit I don't know if it's my age or if I'm a soft shite but am I hell going out in this rain. I haven't been out all week so I'm starting to feel a bit anxious.

Tough going out in the wind and rain today like, roll on the spring.

My race calendar has started to fill up.
Boro HM 1st March, La Valetta 10K 22nd March, Sunderland 10K 17th May, Hartlepool HM 31st May and finally Windermere Marathon 14th June.

Anyone enter The Blaydon Race ballot?

Find out tomorrow.

Shambles last year when 500 odd decided the weather was shit and didn’t bother.

I've never used runna but I'd find a plan which works for you eg around how many days you want to run. At this stage you should still be building a base and just running consistently and as a beginner, definitely not running two long runs in a row.
PS I'm no expert, just my thoughts from what I've picked up from coaches, plans and podcasts over the 4 years I've been running.

thanks for the advice
it varys from week to week which is my issue,
probs because i enjoy the interval/speed session day, so dont try and cram these in towards the end of the week, im quiet happy with the progress feeling comfortable doing 9/10km but it all just feels so slow
i did try and join a local running coach but his prices where mental,

Signed up yesterday just before deadline and was successful. Only entered as my 21yr old son wanted to run it.

Said I wouldn't do it again after last year as it was starting to turn into a mag love in with "wor flags" being there and shouts of "toon army".

Yeh, I was successful too.

It will my 2nd Blaydon Race so hoping to beat my previous time.

Just seen this thread.

I haven't ran for years and over the past couple of years got lazy and put on 2 stone.

I started running on 1st January, managed just over 1 mile at a shocking 11:30min/mil pace. A real wake up call.

I've ran every other day since Jan 2nd and I'm up to 20 miles a week now. Ran parkrun on Saturday in 27 mins last week (8:52min/mile pace).

Lost 20lbs and loving it, totally got the bug. Thinking of signing up for some upcoming 10k's

I dafty signed up for the Manchester Marathon, I'm still unsure if I'm actually going to give it a go

Have Middlesbrough half in a few weeks

I couldn't cope after last year with wor flags , too Saudi for me 🤣

First ultra in 3 weeks. Did 19 miles this morning, including Chester le street parkrun, and absolutely knackered. No idea where the extra 15 are going to come from. Only 1 more long run left next weekend. Guess I've just got to trust this accumulated build then taper will work. To be fair taper and carb leading are my strengths 🤣.
Weather this morning was perfect for it mind
Will be happy if it's like this on 8th mar.

I did it a few times 2014-17ish, and it was fine. Did it last year for the first time in a decade and like you said it's really bad for that now. Entered the ballot this year (cos my mate is doing it) but I was a bit relieved to miss out TBH. It is a proper Mag-fest now, more so than it was.
