Running Thread 2026

Got out today after my ankle niggle and my hamstring decides to flare up. Did on Wednesday after a speed session with the club. Was fine for 11k then went to hit HM pace and I could feel it niggling away. Frustrating.

Missing the XC session tomorrow but meant to run the handicap 5k on Wednesday. Might have to miss that as well. Pretty stop start beginning to the year. Done some good mileage but niggling a lot and had illness. But when it’s been clicking it has been positive.

I’m having a crack at the superhalfs series. Anyone done it before?
First outing is Lisbon Half next month, anyone going or done it before?

My first “overseas” race, apart from the odd euro parkrun…
Any advice on taking out extra travel insurance to cover race day?
My existing policy says I’m not covered for races or timed events and I’d rather buy an additional policy if needs be just in case anything daft happens.

Can't help as I was covered with a normal policy when I did Chicago marathon
Think it was with coverwise but couldn't say 100%. I did have to email them as it said it covered for racing but because I wasn't elite it was fine.

I used a company called SportsCover Direct for a marathon in the US, from memory I already had normal travel cover and just bought event cover for the day of the race from them, I don't remember it being very expensive and never had to use it so no idea how good they would have been if called on

Thanks for this - thats the same company I'd found online too, looked like it would do what I needed and was quoting me £12 for a day of bolt-on event cover. I'll go with that.

Anyone else had any issues with the pier or pier? Entered and it’s took payment details but at no point asked for any of my details.

Pier to Pier 2026 Entries Update

For those unaware we suffered a significant glitch in the entry system for this years Pier to Pier when entries opened yesterday. Just over 500 payments were collected but with no accompanying information about the entrant.

If you have made a payment, but haven’t yet heard from us, please submit details of the payment and the following information, to [email protected]

Name; Date of Birth; Postal Address; Email; Phone; T-shirt size, EA Registration Details (including Club and URN)

Thank you to those who have already submitted their details, along with screenshots of payments, we are working through these to build the database.

If you wish to purchase a Bus Ticket for the trip from Roker to Shields before the race please pay £4 to Sunderland Strollers Running Club 09-01-29 05585618. If you should have received your £2 EA discount then feel free to apply this discount to the cost of your bus ticket. If you require a refund of your EA discount please send your bank details to [email protected]

It will clearly take some time to collate all of the entry information and we will be unable to re-open entries until this is largely complete, there will be around 800 entries available. Once we have a better idea we’ll publicise the opening date & time.

Respect to Sunderland Strollers - working all hours to contact people to ensure they are property registered after the problem.

I was out all day Tuesday so missed the update. Got an email from Race Director that evening asking for registration details. Sent them with a thanks for contacting me so late in evening - he replied with a "hopefully earlier than the 1am yesterday".
They have/had about 500 such registrations to catch up.

I don't envy the chairmans task
This weather is awful, wanted to get out today but I'm not sure I will in this
Just been out doing intervals round Silky lake with our lass, and I confirm that the weather if absolutely f***ing brutal mind.

Enjoyed it, weirdly, but it was tough to get going in it.

I have said before - hardest part is getting out the door. Even thinking about how much better you will feel when you finish doesn't always work.

8k lamposts session at our club tonight from whitley bay to Tynemouth and back along the sea front. Just hideous with the wind, rain and sea spray.

Seriously thinking of hibernating until the clocks go back
