Big mistake was letting defenders go if there is no replacements, crazy. We will certainly struggle until end of the season. I'm not sure if there is any decent free agent defenders out there but I'd be certainly looking for them right now.

Surely if players are weak as piss then bollocking them is the absolute worst thing they can do.

Which is why Keane could turn out to be a huge mistake.
How's that.. keane will give them confidence just ask young Henderson and colback what he did for them and alot of young lads who were playing at the time... a winning mentality is what he will bring to them

..i can't say anymore than what i already have mate. Speakman today has just killed the place. How many times can i say Keane got offered it...accepted it and it was all done. Hand on heart, that's as far i got told as of yesterday.
You are talking out of your arse ,let's be honest. It's never been 'done'. It's not done until it's done. And it clearly isnt done. So stop saying it's done.

I think we’re agreeing in a way. The long term stuff, restructuring academy, recruitment, all that stuff is good and will bear fruit and you have to look ahead. I’m right behind it. But getting the first team appointment wrong will mean whoever it is doesn’t last long enough to see it. I can’t help but think there was a massive fall out with LJ somehow - something big happened - because not having the next bit in place for today has cost us more than I think he thought before the game. Not enough urgency at all. Information is good but nobody wanted that update. They wanted a manager in to kick our arses and get three points. They have to get this right. I personally think the experience of Keane and his clear thinking would be the perfect addition to the recruitment plan they’ve got in place. He would balance it with reality and make strength of personality and will to win as important as technical ability.
Pretty much this👍

Wonder if Speakman is playing a power game?? God knows, that interview today was a mood killer, similar to a David Moyes motivational speech, like you said earlier , this club does my head in, it’s a proper clusterfuck at the minute.

I’m at a loss to try and understand how we like to play with 3 CBs but have somehow weakened that area

I said it on another thread - we have a serious problem in this “structure”, whereby the people making major decisions relevant to the first team, are NOT the person who has to take responsibility for first team results.

Speakman made the inexplicable decision on Monday, to leave this club with only two fit senior centre halves. Easy decision for him to make - he’s not the person who gets sacked if results go south. No manager (I.e. the person who’s head is actually on the block) would ever even contemplate doing that. It’s madness.

The power has to come with the responsibility. Otherwise no sane person is going to take on the responsibility. Who wants to be sacked for decisions other people have made?!

I do wonder if the strategy was PR. Get the max crowd out of Defoe and announce Keane before Tuesday. If so it couldn't have gone worse.

I'd like to agree with you mate, but I think they are falling at the first hurdle.
Long term success will only come to fruition if major decisions, such as management changes are handled correctly and even their most ardent supporters would agree they have so far completely mishandled this one.
Succession planning is a basic for any long term business plan, and in my eyes, this has shown that they clearly hadn't forseen LJ going, or planned for it, even though they felt it right to pull the trigger when they did.
Poor, poor management mate.
Good organisations always have a contingency plan in case things take a turn for the worst. Johnson’s sacking can’t have been a knee jerk reaction from the pitiful display at Bolton. His credentials were being questioned after our dreadful results and failures end of last season! So why didn’t we have a shortlist of experienced/successful coaches who could bring success to the club. We can’t afford not to get 3 points Tuesday night.
