Gave up following Durham's season last month when they hoyed the Blast up the wall. This season has been a total disgrace. Would rather watch the 100.

So back from the game. Wife and I both took time off work, nephew with us, around 60 miles travel and what we witnessed was absolutely embarrassing. I'd go as far as saying that was the most humiliating defeat I've seen, body language in the field was appalling, mis-fields, dropped catches and our nephew at one stage said "they aren't even trying"........ it's very hard to disagree with him.
No team news until around 10.35am, totally unacceptable and whoever is behind this needs to give their heads a shake and stop treating fans with contempt, again after years of loyal support from members and defenders, we deserve better than that. Had a little discussion last night about this and it's more clear now that the social media lads are under orders about what is released so whoever that is, please have a re-think about your approach as it's very poor. Ironically the club released an injury update during the game today, a day after Martin Emmerson tweeted the news he clearly gets leaked by staff at the club........ it doesn't paint a happy house does it when someone at the club is preventing news articles being published which are then been leaked before the club. On the subject of "happy house" it clearly isn't a happy camp at the moment, the body language was very telling today and those at the game today, I'd be interested in your thoughts on that but we all found it very telling, something isn't right. Couple of similar rumours of unrest doing the rounds today but that has seemed to be common this season, but looking at body language/manner of defeats I start to wonder if these rumours have some weight behind them
The game itself our batting was on the whole woeful, just no game management at all. At one point I think we were something like 130-7 or thereabouts and we're trying reverse sweep scoop shots ffs .
Moves me onto the bowling, it was poor but I have to call out the captain. The captain I think went for 60 runs off 7 overs, why did he feel the need to keep bowling himself, it was embarrassing captaincy. It was all a case of just going through the motions/can't be arsed. Any reason why he didn't bowl Doneathy? Last week at the members forum Marcus North commented on the reasoning behind signing Maddinson explaining he can play both formats and can bat and bowl, so he basically referred to it as value for money in that he can do a bit of all........... if that is the case why did he not bowl today when our captain was getting embarrassed with his poor bowling? There was just no pro active thinking at all.... why not give Rushy another bowl, it was evident the game was never going to 50 overs, so why worry about bowling out some players? Trev and Gibson had far less run rates. Got to question the captaincy as it was extremely poor.
Trev and Mackintosh batted well.
Game finished around 3.40pm and I have to be honest I was genuinely shocked at what I witnessed today. Worrying times for the club, a lot needs to change.

Hard to disagree with any of this. The players looked demotivated. I was at the ground and even Rushy looked fed up. hard to blame him. I spoke to one of Durham’s box office staff today entering the ground asking why no squad news & he said the lads on social media team had prepared stuff two days ago but didn’t get approved to be published because of a last minute injury to Bushnell and got no response to publish updated version/confirmation from those in coaching team.
I’ve been watching Durham for 12+ years and it’s hard to think of a more depressing season than this. I thought we’d have a good year in this competition but there’s no chance based upon today’s showing.

Why do you assume anything is "leaked"? Marty is a journalist with really close ties to the club. It's basically his job to find things out. The information was clearly leaked by folk within the club/closely associated within the club, he won't have found it out speaking to Jenny on the till in Morrisons in Seaburn. That's his job to get the information and he's done that well. There is clearly a policy within the club about sharing certain information and when to host it and someone alluded to it earlier saying nobody at the club would authorise the publishing of the team news today which was only published 25 minutes before the start of the game.... It doesn't look good for the club when others find it out first and host it themselves before the club do. I remember a website told us 2-3 months before he signed that Maddinson was joining us, likewise an external site and Marty hosted about Ravindra signing. Plenty more the club could be telling members as well with regards to contracts but hopefully it all comes out soon enough. Been leaks for years. Someone on here posted about Jack Campbell 2 months before the club announced it. I posted about Burnham a year ago for example. Someone today (I've heard the same thing since) posted about a player who has been released. Communication is a wonderful thing, the club haven't done it well for years. Who is to blame for that is open to debate. One thing that shouldn't be up for debate is how poorly the club communicate which has been the case for many years.

I'll keep banging the drum to support local/county cricket, after watching that today it's really hard to sell it and expect someone to pay money to watch us it was that bad today. The club as I've said are poor in communication, they may need to come up with a special marketing campaign to shift memberships and T20 season tickets for 2023 if this continues, that is going to be a very hard sell and that's before we start discussing the state of the wickets and balls.

Weather was lovely. We stayed back for about half an hour just for a bit craic really (& some were finishing off their cans
) but had I been on my own I'd have left well before the end.
Security was shite mind (or good whatever way you look at it) we never had our tickets checked and the gentlest of pats to our bags to check for glass so could’ve easily taken more than the 4 can maxWeather was lovely. When we went out at the break they put bag check bags on our wrist and they said we return we will need to show our cards when we come back in.... . None the wiser why they put bands on us for when we all had cards anyway which we showed upon entry this morning.The timing of this announcement was interesting. I hope it’s just a coincidence that it was made just after everyone had got into the ground and taken their seats. Most of this information must have been known at least a week ago. The cynical amongst us might conclude that they held onto this news until they were sure of a good crowd.

Or because they got some criticism again (and also after someone else had reported it) just like when they hastily arranged a members forum off the back of criticism.............
Plenty other stuff they aren't reporting on which I can't understand but I guess that is how the club wish to communicate despite expressing wishes to be open with members.

One thing I must say is that we enjoyed the visit to Gosforth in terms of the craic/change of scenery/weather and ground was immaculate. Lovely sitting on a camp chair watching cricket as opposed to those hard back plastic seats.

Due to work commitments didn't get to the ground till around 12.30. Therefore got to see the "best" of the batting with Trevaskis and Macintosh batting together. They batted quite well but the damage had already been done. Obviously once both of them were gone there was nothing else much to follow. The bowling was mediocre and the fielding absolute dog shit. There were 5 catches dropped altogether, although the 2 dropped by Trevaskis were quite difficult. The only way to even make a game of this was by taking early wickets and preventing the flow of runs but the abysmal fielding put paid to that and Surrey we're allowed to cruise along trouble-free to victory. I was viewing from the area around the groudsmans hut behind the bowlers arm. Once the third catch went down the crowd around where I was became a bit restless and catcalls were being made such as "Are you lot having a laugh" and "Do you not practice fielding". Not something I really support but hardly surprising given what was happening out on the field. My highlight of the day was seeing, from where I was standing, Rushy bowling a slower ball to take his wicket, possibly out the back of his hand. Maybe we're catching onto this white ball bowling business. When the last few runs were required I began making my way to the exit. What was surprising to me was that most people were just staying put and enjoying the rest of the afternoon in the sun and weren't allowing DCCC's performance on the pitch to spoil it. Anyway I will still be turning up for Sunday. Had pencilled in an away day at Grantham for the Notts game but going off the idea now.
It's bad enough watching poor performances on the pitch but that's made 10 times worse by the complete lack of communication from the club. Communication has always been, at best, mediocre now it is completely abysmal or simply non existent. As a bare minimum I would expect a squad to be announced a at least 3 days before a game. The final proposed XI to be announced the day before the fixture but however this will obviously be subject to injuries etc. Also comments made for the dropping and selecting of individual players. For instance this season in the T20 campaign Liam Trevaskis was made captain. That was fair enough by me but there was no mention as to why he was specifically made captain as opposed to anyone else. Even worse a few seasons back Stuart Poynter was made T20 captain despite it seeming unlikely that he would be a 1st XI team member before the season even started. Unsurprisingly he was dropped before the competition finished as there was no justification for selecting him, based on form, in the first place. Injury updates made on an individual basis as and when information becomes available. Not the scenario that exists now whereby players go missing for days or even months and then, eventually, a mass injury update is released on their progress.
It's now got to the stage where rumours are spreading like wildfire throughout the membership and supporters as to what is actually going on behind the scenes and patience has now worn very thin. However the club still remains silent on cricketing updates. It wouldn't surprise me if Ben Stokes plays on Sunday, which would encourage a few more to attend, but the Club only announced it 20 minutes before the game starts.

Definitely agree with this. I know there has been some disquiet on here about playing home games out of the county, but I don’t think the arrangements for this game could be faulted.
Plus it would be a good advert for the club if the team played like we know they should/can.
