Clearly you regard watching theEngland football team as an essential test of patriotism. That rules out a majority of females staightaway. Plus the rugby fans and those who dislike sport or just plain dislike the over commercialised exercise in cynicism that is the World Cup.
I love my country, though I try to avoid loud declarations of patriotism. They are often suspect, I find. Don't you think. ?

But watching this sorry excuse for a football team is something I would rather avoid.
 
I'd like for them to do well, and it bothers me when they lose.

Takes me about 15 minutes to get over an England defeat.
Takes me about 2 days to get over a Sunderland defeat.

I care, but just not as much.
 
Tbh, TV is so saturated with football nowadays that if they were to do away with International football altogether it would probably take me quite a few years before I began to hanker after it again and I certainly wouldn't miss the poxy International breaks one bit. Love Sunderland, proud to be English just not fussed over International football but each to their own.

Not when I was growing up. Still remember watching England Argentina 1986, fairly sure it was a Sunday and a boiling day. We were round one of our mates' houses rammed in upstairs and downstairs. All of us were getting up in the middle of the night to watch England before going to school. Still remember 1982. All of us glued to the telly. It was a massive thing when I was growing up in the '80s, same for all me mates in East Durham.

I just hate all the fanfare that crops up every tournament. The media big the players up and absolutely slate them afterwards.

That's without mentioning the apparent England fans who come out of the closet with an opinion on football, the ones who have flags on their cars or houses.

I prefer football being the working class game, where us die hards love it through thick and thin, not those who jump on the bang wagon for a couple of weeks every other year.

you should ask yourself what patriotism and pride really is

you are confusing patriotism and pride with football

and footballers representing England who have no sense of patriotism and pride and passion

i'm actually glad that italy got beat last night putting England out

it saves English patriots from any more embarrasment

hopefully the board can return to normal and the national football team including staff and the association can duck their heads through heathrow and enjoy the rest of their summer holiday
