Class myself as British ,have no sense of pride for the st George,but very proud when I see the Union Jack flying over southwick police station every morning.

'England' have barely shown an ounce of respect to the North East.. ever.. off the pitch as much as on it.

I think 'England' are mirrored the respect that they give us (up here) and I think that it commonly agreed with Newcastle and Boro too..

That said I still wish England the best and am behind them but true love is defined by my love for Sunderland.

I'd say most english comes from Danish, Latin and Greek.

Could not agree more. If you are English and love football then why wouldn't you care about your own national team? Like you, I think they are full of shit and would be buzzing if we won a major tournament.

I'm Scottish. i live and work in England I consider myself British. I wanted England to do well last night but losing means only a bit of disappointment. If Scotland were playing England I would want Scotland to win but it wouldn't really matter to me. I'll support England at cricket and have no interest in rugby. However more important than anything else is Sunderland. Club before country because it is closer to our hearts, it is part of our daily life. Perhaps if a Sunderland player was in the England team it may make more of a difference in supporting England. Mind, in saying that Bardsley playing For Scotland didn't make me take an interest in watching Scotland.

Someone earlier said he didn't have an affinity with England. Well I don't have one either. I think, over the years, the England team, biased choices of players towards the South of us at least, and a disregard of the European golden Shoe winner Kevin Phillips left me devoid of any commitment or support of the team, the managers and the organisation who manage them. Then you get the really quite awful individuals like John Terry, Stephen Gerrard whose unsavoury behaviour and private lives are disregarded for the little talent they have shown.
