Processed meats all the way. Agree with the passion for the battered sausage and spam fritter. A deep fried smokey can be a delight. If very hungry a greasy battered burger can hit the spot.

Patties and fish cakes don’t work well with chips for me, potato with potato. Canny on their own.

Kind of, but it's pork rather than mince. There's also a kind of sweetness about the taste as well. I've had some where they put a thin coat of ketchup on it before coating it in batter.

Used to love a mince pie from down Merrill's. Them proper thick pastry ones. They must've changed their supplier though cos they're the cheap shite ones now.

They used to get the pies from Gelders. Always liked the Steak Pie and Chips.

The fall back was fish cake and chips for me, I'm guessing that you call them patties? Fish wedged between potato (circular) and deep fried same as the fish. They were cheaper, especially after you'd blown most your brass in the vending machine straight after the swimming baths.
