No more concerts at SOL

Went to a couple of gigs at SOL and I always said that the city's infrastructure wasn't built for events like that. People were queuing to back northbound on the Metro for 2 hours...it was farcical. Completely different to match day when most people live in Wearside/Durham area.

Shouldn't bother then if the queues are long.

How else were those thousands if people living/staying in Magtown and the like meant to get back? The Fab 56?

Dunno how many people stayed in the Wearside locality like if they came from Scotland or something. Was there ever anything announced about hotels/restaurants making big bucks from these things?

You missed my obvious point, which was basically tough shit if mags have to queue for two hours to get home.

Bars certainly made money from them.

if you were savy and knew what you were doing, the gigs were fine - no worse and no better than any i've been to at the eithad or hampden etc...

problem i had with them, was they seemed to bring out the special needs day trippers off their faces before the gig had started, poss an age thing too but its never seemed as bad as that around the country - although a few MEN gigs were close...

Oasis will always sell out arenas and stadiums. To say they wont is you talking bollocks but they hadnt done a big tour for a while i seem to remember at the time so there was some behind it along with excellent supports like kasabian who released their 2nd album just then and the enemy. So no i dont talk shite

I went, class concert. I'd seen them twice previously and that was my favorite.

They still couldn't be considered the in thing at the time.

They'd never played a stadium gig up here and were still going at the time so it was a big draw.
Being a draw isn't the same as being the in thing marra.

Tranmere had Madness, Libertines and Little Mix over three nights back in May and apparently the head of operation has since had the bullet as they made a loss overall. It is difficult to imagine how that is possible for TRFC and even less so for the SOL. I would love to see the numbers.

I remember walking past St Peter's Metro station and a completely empty Grand Central train went past on it's way back to the maintenance depot (the last stop is Sunderland). At the same time huge queue waiting for the metro - even if those people had walked to the central station they would not have been allowed on an empty train (all thanks to the rail deal Sunderland has). The metro drivers have in the past also planned to go on strike whenever there is a gig at the SoL. Perhaps if Nexus / Network Rail got their plan together the infrastructure would cope.
