I'd agree. Newcastle have one horror match left, plenty of mid-table sides already on holiday and three games against relegation rivals. Cardiff have four horror games, three games against relegation rivals and just the four matches against sides already on the beach.

NUFC fixtures: Wolves, Huddersfield, Burnley, West Ham, Everton, Bournemouth, Arsenal, Palace, Leicester, Southampton, Brighton, Liverpool, Fulham

CCFC fixtures: Watford, Everton, Wolves, West Ham, Brighton, Chelsea, Man City, Burnley, Liverpool, Fulham, Palace, Man Utd

'kin hell, Chelsea will have a new manager by then too so they'll be out to prove a point. Only small crumb of comfort is that it's not too dissimilar to our run in in 2014 so we could do with one of Gus's miracles

Comfort for Cardiff is that Burnley's fixtures are even uglier, and Southampton are nearly as bad.

Since Benitez as been at Newcastle

Bournmouth - £120m spent
Brighton - £137m
Burnley - £105m
Cardiff - £54m
Palace - £130m
Fulham - £117m
Huddersfield - £92m
Southampton - £152m
Watford - £126m
Newcastle - £133m

Hardly untold fortunes.
Just curious where you got those figures? Not doubting their accuracy, just curious.

Website called Transferleague.
Don't know how accurate the figures are but suspect they won't be far out.
Ah, I used to use that site but they're just not very accurate.

e.g. they include Merino as an outgoing transfer, but don't record his transfer in. They record Mat Sels in, but not Sels out. They've got Mitrovic recorded as being sold, but omit his fee, which is reported around £24m.

Like I say don't really know how accurate it is.

I’d say Chelsea at home for Cardiff is easier than Mags away to Arsenal. ‘Horror matches’ Plenty of fixtures Cardiff could pick points up in but yes they have a couple more difficult ones, owt can happen though as Newcastle showed themselves against City.

Think it‘s widely reported and widely accepted that Newcastle United haven’t spent as much as they could, and the club is suffering as result. Especially in the wake of the owner making grand statements about the manager being backed with “every penny generated”.

At some point Ashley has to recoup the interest free loans he’s pumped into the club.

Could probably say the same about many many clubs except its not so widely reported and their fans dont piss and whinge about it.

That’s what I’m hoping. Ashley is paying himself back the money he’s loaned the club with a view to selling us to an owner whose ambition lies beyond mere survival. Comfortable midtable and the squad depth to enjoy a cup run.

Think the number of clubs who have spent significantly less than they could is shorter than you imply.
