Exactly .. Take Papis Cisse for example....hardly world class as he career has clearly shown but for a couple of seasons Pardew got the absolute best out of him....he even made Steven Taylor look almost decent !!!
He got a lot of players playing above themselves and got them big moves on strength of it.

None of those like cisse as you mentioned really hit those heights again becoming bench warmers and eventually dropping down to their natural level which certainly wasn’t top 5 in an elite league.

Thing is though, he's probably right. We know how much clubs are willing to pay for English centre halves. If Longstaff continues to put in good performances then he'll probably catch the eye of a 'top six' club as he's young and English. If Almiron proves his talents in the PL as he did in the MLS then again he'll catch the eye of a bigger club, if not then some MLS team will probably sign him still for big money as he's proven there. £50m doesn't seem too exaggerated at all.
If if if

Was very good in his immediate spell until Pardew installed his 'methods' which included playing him on the right wing. Pretty middling after that.

Exactly.
His record in the Bundesliga was way better.

What's not true?
Played League 1 and 2 in France (hardly groundbreaking)
Did well in Germany (one season)
His best form was in England (under Pardew)
Fucked off to China (where he scored a miserly 16 goals)

Had 2 and a half seasons in Germany better than 1 in 2 strike rate.

Played 16 games his first season and 17 games his final season.
He did have a good strike rate but it was only for a short period.
Like i said did well in Germany.

17 in his final season as he joined Newcastle in the January. 9 in 17 in Germany and 13 in 14 at Newcastle giving him 22 in 31 for that season. An outstanding return.

He was never as good as that afterwards, not playing at his absolute best for a couple of seasons under pardew as claimed on here.

He was never going to keep up that scoring rate playing in the top league in the world.

They won 29 out of 46 that season, so subtract that and it's 27 in 88 or 30.7% for Rafa.

(all figures as of 11 Feb as nobody can be arsed to update his wiki page).
Just for comparison (SAFC)

Poyet - 30.6%
Bruce - 29.6%
Di Canio - 23.1%
Allardyce - 29% (33% with Newcastle)

Not a lot of difference (bar Di Canio) considering Rafa's greatness.
