Stop talking sense fella.Numbers from the 2018 accounts Wage bill £93.6m (2017 £112.2m), other operating costs £26.0m (2017 £28.6m). Total running costs £119.6m (2017 £140.8m). His suggestion was accurate for 2017. I suspect the reason for the higher wage bill n 2017 was promotion bonuses, and that recurring wage costs would have been lower than in 2018. That resulted in an operating profit (potentially available for investment, although it also has to pay the tax bill) of £58.9m (2017 loss £55.2m). Looking at player purchases most of that operating profit was in fact spent in 2017. Roughly translated, you spent most of the financial benefits from promotion getting promoted, leaving far less for investment once you got back to the PL.
They're in the premier league with zero operating costs and Big Mike has £140 million stashed behind the sofa.
