Numbers from the 2018 accounts Wage bill £93.6m (2017 £112.2m), other operating costs £26.0m (2017 £28.6m). Total running costs £119.6m (2017 £140.8m). His suggestion was accurate for 2017. I suspect the reason for the higher wage bill n 2017 was promotion bonuses, and that recurring wage costs would have been lower than in 2018. That resulted in an operating profit (potentially available for investment, although it also has to pay the tax bill) of £58.9m (2017 loss £55.2m). Looking at player purchases most of that operating profit was in fact spent in 2017. Roughly translated, you spent most of the financial benefits from promotion getting promoted, leaving far less for investment once you got back to the PL.
Stop talking sense fella.

They're in the premier league with zero operating costs and Big Mike has £140 million stashed behind the sofa.

Well he has nothing to prove to anybody to be fair, If he takes the cash, good for him. I personally can't see him doing that though, family is important to him so can see him staying for a while, if no offers become available then maybe..
But shit, the money offered in China I would be off like a shot.
so money isn't the issue, but if he's offered a shitload, then it is? interesting.

On the metro now on the way to work and theres a group of them saying they will be raging if Ashley doesn't spend anymore than 40 million this transfer window. Also said they will key his car if they see it again around town. Ha!

Nothing overly wrong with Mike.

Got us on an even keel, he could just say fuck it and sell anything he wants and liquidate us in truth.he didn't have to bankroll us back to the PL but he did.
Gets a raw deal from a section of us but in truth his future model might work. Hes already stated on a few occasions he hasn't got the sort of money the top 6 have .dont know what some fans want ffs.
Rafa has form for playing politics, done ok but off you pop, Ashley will sell when he gets his price.A young hungry manager is the way to go .
45k fans will rock up regardless .

Nice to see you back pukka pad.

Reasonable. Kept things in perspective. No mention of boycouts, being a massive club or Rafa being a demi-god.

You can't be a mag mate, sorry.

:eek::eek:

Astounded that a mag is finally talking sense on here.

Which is fair enough. But that doesnt mean you have to have a closed mind that refuses to accept people are different to you does it? If Newcastle fans have a different stance what matters? Its an open message forum is it not.
It’s not merely different it’s self entitlement at its very worst and deluded at the very best. It’s not the behaviour of normal balanced people. It’s like every spoilt brat in the world got dumped in Newcastle and became mags. It’s only because you have been marinated in it that you can’t see it for what it is. The mags I know that have supported your club since the early seventies find it utterly nauseating and embarrassing in equal measure.

I’m loving the tweets about names being linked. The replies are all just ‘not bothered it’s not Rafa’ ‘just want Rafa back’ ‘don’t care unless it’s Rafa’
Whoever gets it is going to be massively up against it
They won’t see it but the biggest problem they have, and what is ultimately holding them back is a large number of their supporters.

It could be a sign the takeover is happening.

Put him in charge till the new owners get their own man.

Or its the easy option. Still in place come the start of the season, of course, after the take over is called off by Ashley under the guise of getting sick of the prolonged uncertainty. Too late to sign players or approach a new manager so Redfearn will be given a two year deal in order to maintain continuity.
