New Music Releases Thread

My usual weekly review. A quiet week bolstered by some things I'd missed that Uncut reviewed in their latest issue...

Plantoid - proggy psych-rock, female fronted. Pretty good but not wonderful.
The Last Dinner Party - a lot's obviously been written about them. It's a solid to good debut album, basically. The singer is their key asset. Can ber a bit OTT with their Queen meet Sparks for dinner at Kate Bush's place type vibe. Sinner is a banging tune.
Ariel Kalma, Jeremiah Chiu & Marta Sofia Honer - this is good. Loosely electronica, I guess. A little bit ambioent.
J Mascis - as usual, a little less outright rock than Dinosaur Jr. It's very good, excellent songs.
The Miserable Rich - their first release in over a decade. Sort of ornate, folkish, chamber pop. Pretty good.
Vera Sola - Dan Aykroyd's daughter apparently. This is her second albuym and is excellent. Reminds me of Calexico in terms of the general vibe.
Fabio do Mascimento & Sam Gendel - a largely instrumental hybrid of tropicalia and jazz. Much more than background music. Very good!
Skyway Man - slightly psychedelic pop. Quite a warming album. Worth a listen.
Infesta - this is ace. Electronic tunes with slightly sinister vocals over the top. The best comparison I can make is to say that they sound like an Italian Sleaford Mods.
The Rite Flyers - solid to good power pop from Texas. A few excellent tunes over the album.
Roy Montgomery & Friends - quite shoegazey, largely due to the ethereal vocals from "Friends". Again, really good. Reminds me of a slightly more goth Cocteau Twins. Worth a Bandcamp visit.
Francis Plagne - Australian composer/guitarist does something that seems more song based than usual. Three long songs, which never outstay their welcome. Very good!

Album of the week: Infesta just get there with strong competition from Vera Sola.

Nice to see the positive comments for Bill Ryder-Jones. Always rated him but this new record could be his best yet. Definitely one to play when you have the time to just sit and take it in. Got some Mercury Rev (Deserter's Songs) vibes about it which can't be bad. Going to have a serious look at his tour dates to see if I can make it to one.

Had never heard of them, but the bairn had the album on over the weekend… I quite like it, sort of Florence & the Machine type stuff when listening in passing.

future islands album is very future islands, cant mistake them for any other band. . Just hope Everton get their 10 points back for Samuel J's sake.

Fully prepared for Last Dinner Party album to get blanket 5 star reviews, can tell when the pluggers are in overdrive.

Totally agree about the Last Dinner Party. They've been hyped up on the basis of absolutely nothing for ages now.

Have very much enjoyed the last dinner party (slow grower), Jamie Webster and Dylan John Thomas albums this week.

Hopefully nee one steals my tickets Friday for Last Dinner Party gig when they go on sale as seen a few live videos and she's a good front woman.

There are new albums this week from Brittany Howard, Chelsea Wolfe, Declan McKenna, Dhani Harrison, Ducks Ltd, Helado Negro, Kanye West & Ty Dolla $ign, Madi Diaz, The Strumbellas, Zara Larsson, Pylon Reenactment Society, Saramaccan Sound, Tyler Ramsey, Pineapple Thief, Kali Malone, Loving, Itasca and The Chisel.
The Chisel is the only one jumping out for me this week. Maybe Chelsea Wolfe.

New Imperial Wax album out tomorrow. Featuring 2 ex Fall members from the final line up and now apparently Joe the ex guitarist from Cabbage (who also happens to be a MLF).
