I did wonder. In fairness, Partisan have some exceptional artists on their books.

A bit of a quiet week as expected. As far as my weekend listening has been concerned:
Wilco: back to their country/Americana origins. A very warm double album. Almost, at times, seems like a Jeff Tweedy solo thing. Very good.
Church of the Cosmic Skull: this came out a week or two back (unnoticed by me). More of the same from them. Enjoyable!
Brian Jackson: he's generally know for being Gil Scott Heron's go to collaborator for many years. This solo album is very good. The tunes sound like they've come from a GSH album TBH.
Catrin Finch & Seckou Keita: another album of their harp/kora collaborations. This may be the best so far. Very good live as well. Top stuff!
Mono: their first venture into soundtracks. Short (for Mono particularly), gentle post-rock tracks. A good starting point for anyone new to Mono.
Shabaka: as in Hutchings. His first properly solo album. It's a lot more down tempo than his other bands, enjoyable though.
Rosie Carney: Aussie singer-songwriter. Some low key but quite poppy tunes. Good, really.
Steve Earle & the Dukes: Steve Earle completes his triology of albums of songs by his major influences (following Townes van Zandt and Guy Clark) with Jerry Jeff Walker (best known for writing Mr Bojangles). That's on here but probably doesn't represent the rest of the album, which is pretty upbeat and a little folky.
John Doe: the former singer with X continues his explorations in Americana. Excellent song writing, lyrically astute and humorouse. Recommended!
Just Mustard: shoegazey goth rock. They've had some cracking reviews for album number 2 but this leaves me a little cold.
Maria BC: a bit doom rock. Starts nicely but is a little one paced and samey over the course of an album.
Stars: their first in 5 years. Nice to have them back. Boy/girl vocals slightly synthy indiepop. They're kind of the Canadian Belle & Sebastian but not.
Album of the week: Catrin & Seckou by a decent margin.
mickey head album got 5 stars in mojo and 9 out of 10 in uncut ( might be other way round ) high praise indeed .There are jubilee themed new albums tomorrow from 070 Shake, Andrew Bird, Angel Olsen, Drive-By Truckers, GWAR, Horsegirl, Jasmyn, Polica (not sure but this may be delayed), Post Malone, The Sheepdogs, Prince and the Revolution (a triple live album from their peak time), Ural Thomas & the Pain, Charlie Musselwhite, Rubber Oh, SG Goodman and Michael Head & the Red Elastic Band.
Truckers, Head, Olsen, Bird, Horsegirl the big five for me.
He’s got a tremendous body of work spread over 40 plus years now.Looking forward to the Michael Head, always enjoyed the Pale Fountains
Properly onto this Charlotte Adigery & Bolis Pupul record now
Wow, AOTY contender
Been meaning to give it a listen. They were very good on Later (which has generally been excellent so far this series).
thought last weeks was one of best I've seen for years.Been meaning to give it a listen. They were very good on Later (which has generally been excellent so far this series).
SG Goodman came up on my Apple recommendations on Friday and it’s in my “queue” to listen to. Might skip it to the front if the queue tomorrow.A week that's low on quantity but high on quality. My potted review:
Polica: their usual thing, synthy female vocalled, alt pop. The opening track is a cracker and generally a good album.
SG Goodman: a new name to me but her second album. This is terrific. Indie-Americana, great voice, strong songs.
Drive-By Truckers: opening track The Driver is a classic. The rest is very good. The Truckers making a non-political album for the first time in a while.
Michael Head & The Red Elastic Band: classic songwriting. Absolutely lovely!
Horsegirl: debut album which is exceptionally good. Got a late 80s dark indie vibe, sort of J&MC with female vocals at times.
Angel Olsen: a move back toward simpler songs maybe? This is a very good album from an artist who knows where she's going.
Rubber Oh: one of Pigs*7 has a solo project. A little bit prog, a little bit rock, a conxept album possibly? Enjoyable anyway.
Andrew Bird: a lot fo his recent releases have been a bit meh, this is anything but. Lovely chamber pop intertwined with Velvets/Violent Femmesy melodies.
Fantastic Negrito: as strong as always. Prince influences are there as usual. Will be good played live.
Album of the week: not a duffer amongst the nine but SG Goodman just shades Michael Head.
Aye I was gunna give a mention to Horsegirl, very enjoyable record that. Think the Angel Olsen one is her best for ages as well.A week that's low on quantity but high on quality. My potted review:

Interesting album from Adrian Quesada (Black Pumas) - Boleros Psicodelicios
