For those not into BCNR, I think it’s a grower. But especially one for seeing live if you can.

Jockstrap, the main project of Georgia Ellery from BC,NR is worth a listen. EDM, Debussy, PC Music, Dean Blunt influenced. Signed to Warp last year and have two EPs out along with some remixes.

A friend recommended them last year but I never got round to listening. He also recommended the Anna B Savage album (released a couple of weeks ago) which sounds really great, it’s produced by William Doyle.

Anna B Savage is greatI've had Anna B Savage on my to listen to list for a while. This could be the week....
I enjoyed last year's EP. Suitably awkward listening.
ALong vaguely related lines, Dry Cleaning's debut album is out on April 2nd.
But heaven knows when that will be sadly. I'm sure the album will be many months in the past before that's an option, which is a real shame. For those not into BCNR, I think it’s a grower. But especially one for seeing live if you can.
Fair play. I guess I’ve seen them live over the years so feelBut heaven knows when that will be sadly. I'm sure the album will be many months in the past before that's an option, which is a real shame.
Anyway, like I say, for me, it's not a case of not liking them in particular or not being into them. I like it for a couple of songs, but the delivery is what's tiring me ears out - the past month I've listened to, and liked to varying degrees, BC,NR, Shame, Squid, Landowner, TV Priest, Yard Act, LICE, Dry Cleaning, Sleaford Mods (I know that's a different kind of music that would normally be spoken). They're all doing it to an extent, like some weird Mark E Smith meets Fred Schneider hybrid. That comes on the back of the previous year when I listened to loads of Murder Capital, Fontaines, BODEGA (Pigs x 7 in places) all of whom I really like, except Pigs, but who also do quite a bit of talky pseudo-singing. It's in danger of becoming too much of a muchness, and it's wearing a bit thin already for me. I'm in need of something different this year.
They released a couple of belting records I agreeYet, I feel the most underrated pseudo-singing talk band are Los Campesinos!
But I think it’s insulting to really include them in that category like I just have.

Aren't they more a case of Gareth attempting to sing and failing rather than pseudo-singing/talking? Good band though, lovely live.
I'm looking forward to that.
I've got his 45 min long mixtape on from last summer now. Turned right up with a beer, quite class. He's now being managed by September, the same lot as King Krule, Ogbonjayor, Jai Paul etc. BERWYN is another of their's who has blown up recently and will inevitably do very well.
They also have Chinatown Slalom on their books, another who seemed very exciting in 2019 but I presume have gone away to work on new music.

Aye there's a bit of a media blowback occurring against this post-punk / spoken word / "sprechgesang" style that was popularised off the back of... Idles, probably?
There is a lot of it, and the more of it that comes around, I think it's diluting and we're seeing diminishing returns. The press have turned a bit. I like Yard Act (not because I have to through work) and Dry Cleaning because there's more humour in it - I find Sleaford Mods, Murder Capital and the rump of the others pretty po-faced tbh.
Some nice new shoegaze doing the rounds recently, liked what I've heard so far of Bleach Lab and NewDad. Just Mustard released some great tunes in 2019 but have been pretty quiet since.

Album out in April I think. They're topper imo, and another who are worth seeing live. It does feel like a novelty though and I'm not sure how much longevity they'll have, maybe they'll reinvent themselves.I really couldn’t get into Dry Cleaning, lovely music but the vocals just made me cringe![]()

That's an interesting call. I like them a lot (also agree on some of the more recent stuff - the early stuff is excellent but I thought No Blues was a belter, too, and Sick Scenes has its moments). Maybe goes in with what Chunks said about seeing a band like that live - I thought they were great live, and probably better than on record. (We Twilight Sad at the same venue a couple of weeks later and someone behind us said to their friend "I liked it, but I kept thinking I wish Los Campesinos would come on"Yet, I feel the most underrated pseudo-singing talk band are Los Campesinos!
