New Music Releases Thread

So, I've already mentioned Morbo's album, which is totally bostin'. Beyond that:

Aldous Harding - she's made the move properly from quirky folk type to full on lyrical loon. Musically, it's brilliant and the lyrics are ace and bonkers.
King Gizzo and the Lizzo Wizzo - it's less overtly rock than some of their stuff. Really enjoying it. We need more songs with Boogie in the name.
Marissa Nadler & Stephen Brodsky - I'm filing this under interesting. The cover of Morphine's "In Spite of Me" is great. Morphine should have been much more famous. Anyway, rest of the album needs more listens.
Altın Gün - Turkish folk songs done in a psychedelic style. Does what it says on the tin. Very good! Turkey is the new Sweden/Iceland/Canada/Portugal.
Guided By Voices - they do two types of albums. The ones with 24 songs in 37 minutes that have things on them that you think are brilliant but wish lasted longer and the ones with 24 songs in 80 minutes that have things on them that you think are brilliant but wish were a little shorter. This is of the former type.
Craig Finn - lyrically, as usual marvellous. Musically, as with his previous solo albums, it's a bit one paced. Not quite ballads, not quite rockers.
Foxygen - it's had some poor reviews but I think it's quite good. Best song sounds like a Springsteen pastiche. They're getting more and more cabaret.
Josh Ritter - produced by Jason Isbell with The 400 Unit used as his band, which might interest @Mickdundee. It's a very good album.
Danni Nicholls - my not quite new album choice for the week. Got a cracking review in Uncut, quite rightly. Kind of soulful Americana from someone from the UK. Seems like a talent!
The Mountain Goats - for me, on early listening, it's not one of their best. All seems a bit low key and one paced.
Parekh & Singh - pretty good. If you're interested in hearing what the best Swedish style indiepop band from India are like give it a wallop.
Josefin Öhrn + The Liberation - Öhrno (as I call her) has come up with the goods again. Really, really, really good! The usual slightly psych, slightly Krautrock, slightly several other things mix. Maybe a bit more festival crowd compatible than the previous couple of albums.

It’s shite. Listened to it twice now and it has zero appeal. Like a sweary kids album - think **** and the Gang without the OTT hilarity.
Don't really know their work, but I finished Punk this past weekend and I enjoyed him as a character.

Won't be anything groundbreaking and will do exactly what I expect it to do, but I'm really looking forward to some new Bad Religion this week.

I’m excited for Bad Religion and the Wildhearts this week.

NOFX’s 1990s albums are definitely worth checking out - Punk in Drublic and Heavy Petty Zoo are my 2 favourites. On the surface it’s quite puerile punk rock, but it’s actually quite political and there’s a lot of social commentary and their can be quite clever lyrically.

Thanks for the pointers, I'll give them a listen.

As for BR, I got the RSD single of My Sanity / Chaos From Within and it's really put me in the mood! Love both tracks and like the other one they released (something about paranoia, name escapes me). Given the current political landscape over here, I'm sure it'll serve up some interesting lyrical content

I don’t disagree with this after a few listens. It’s definitely subdued, but then I thought Goths largely was, too. It’s slowly growing on me and it’s been interesting to hear about the approach to the album on “I Only Listen to…” – sounds like it’s Owen Pallett’s production process to have him emote less with his vocals, to use his voice as one of the instruments rather than be the lead, and to not play at all on several of the songs, combined with Darnielle’s continued journey toward less is more as opposed to his older style crammed with description, visuals, and up-front singing – I think it takes getting used to and is definitely less immediate and urgent than they used to sound. Seeing them tonight, so it’ll be interesting to see if the new songs hold my attention. My jury is still out...

Started a 4-gig week with an excellent show on Sunday by the (imho) much underrated Slothrust – well worth checking them out, anyone who likes girl-fronted guitar-based indie/alt rock.

Punk in Drublic is a classic. Love to skate to that album, especially "Leave It Alone"
