New Music Releases Thread

Not listened to the new one yet, but yes they are. Very good

I hate to say it, but Kozelek is right sometimes. The War on Drugs really are quite dull

I like both Kozelek and TWoD but I can see them moving toward stadium rock. Adam Granduciel is doing something right though. He's been in a relationship with Krysten Ritter for 3 years. They've got a particularly puny dog:

New TWOD is good, I like it a lot already on first listen.
It's not as good as lost in the dream but that's not surprising as I have that as so far album of the decade.

This.

In contrast to @chunkylover53 I find The War on Drugs refreshing rather than dull in the sense that it's just a bloke with an electric guitar and lots of delay and reverb in front of some standard beats, it doesn't try to be anything more than that. Too much music gets away from the simple things these days. Plus it's just suited to my tastes I guess.

Don't get me wrong, it's pleasant enough. And having seen them live twice, I don't hate them.

On first listen only, it's a dull album for me

Yeah it's musically very much up my street. I love Springsteen, synths, Americana and Motorik beats so it ticks every box for me.
As I said earlier, the previous album for me is right up there In my all time favourites.
I don't think this new one will reach that but to me it's again a very good album and I'm looking forward to spending the weekend having it on repeat.

I could imagine you maybe finding it a bit long ? I remember you saying you thought arcade fire were dragging things out a bit

I don't mind long albums usually. I just found it a bit samey

Had a couple of plays this morning, really impressed with it like.
Same here. I'm off work today so had it and QOTSA on twice each when I was doing the gardening this morning.

I prefer Mr Wonderful but I really like this one too.

Was listening to the Alice Glass EP earlier (it's pretty decent actually) and was reading about a couple of the songs. I must have completely missed the reasons why Crystal Castles broke up at the time, the bloke appears to be an absolute creep.

Working steadily through new releases in between eatching sport and catching up with TV. So far:

The War on Drugs: I like it. Bigger sound than previously. The 11 mins+ 'Thinking of a Place' is quite wonderful!
Angelo de Augustine: one for the Sufjan fans amongst us. Fragile voiced lo-fi songs, quite charming and very brief.
Gogol Bordello: same sort of thing as they usually do but with more female vocals. The closing track 'Still That Way' is a keeper!
Ian Felice: missed from my list of new releases (which is criminal for a Felice Brothers fan). Officially a solo album but it sounds very much like the first couple of Felice Brothers albums, from when Simone Felice was producing and doing some singing. Unsurprisingly, Simone Felice has returned to the fold to a degree to produce this.
