New Music Releases Thread

Body Count

It's aggressive, it's politically charged and well produced. It's only been one listen but I love it, potentially up there with their debut!

New blog post is up, probably a little less relevant to this thread this week - Steel Panther, Me and That Man, Creeper and Samantha Crain all reviewed:

Just read your Creeper review, well written. Are you aware of the build up to this album? Some people would probably view it as a gimmick but there's a whole backstory which was been pretty immersive for the best part of 6/7 months

Something from a couple of weeks ago - Percolator by Charly Bliss. Something reassuringly 90s about it: girl-fronted indie guitar rock (Breeders, S-K, Muses, etc, if a little more poppy). Persevere with the slightly helium-ish vocals. They had an entertaining song out last year called Turd . Album is due out in 2-3 weeks.

To be completely honest I was unaware of their existence until about 3 weeks before the album came out and I got an email from Roadrunner Records about it.

not a big Jamiroquai fan but put their new album on earlier and quite enjoyed it. Have enjoyed new Trey Songz and Goldlink albums as well over the past week or 2

Kendrick's new song is good - don't think there's a better rapper about than him currently

Anyone who has apple music - Sampha's process video is a decent watch and summit a bit different

I preferred Trey Songz mixtape to his album this year. Both are pretty decent though, might give Tremaine another spin tonight actually.

There was an album released last week by Mike Will Made-It if you haven't heard it. The guy who just produced Kendrick's song that came out last night. Some good stuff on there although there's a couple of tracks worth skipping because of the likes of Lil Yachty & Fortune. Kendrick's actually got a verse on that album, one of the better songs on there.

Got the Mike will made it album saved to listen to but not got round to it yet , probably will give it a try this weekend.

Passion Pit's new album is alright, probably a bit better than their last but not as good as Manners or Gossamer. Blanck Mass is good, not exactly my favourite sort of music but I enjoyed it. Teen Daze is very good, as always.

Couple of good tracks on the Cloud Nothings album but mixed in with a load more drab songs, really not sure what to make of Cloud Nothings overall. They seem to write stuff that's pretty boring in the main but then come out with the odd track like I'm Not Part of Me that's better than 90% of stuff most bands produce.

So, summing up last week's new releases first then looking at tomorrow's new stuff...

Last week (well new to me last week):
British Sea Power: good. As mentioned previously, a return to their old style.
Coco Hames: excellent. Kind of hybrid of 60s girl group and country
Torgeir Waldemar: Neil Young-ish Scandirock. Well worth a listen.
Feral Ohms: rocking. Ethan Miller seems to have dropped the psychedelic side of Comets On Fire and Howlin' Rain.
Wire: pretty much standard late period Wire, which means good.
Jake Xerxes Fussell: one for the folkies. He's a reinterpreter of traditional songs. Quite Bonnie Prince Billy.
Bob Dylan: I'm getting a bit bored with his great American songbook stuff and want a proper Bob album.
Goldfrapp: back toward their dancefloor based sound after the weird synth-folk of the previous release or two.
King Ayisoba: mental Ghanaian fusion of traditional music, chants and hiphop
Yonstarrtssbandht: sort of post-rock, world music hybrid. Three lomgish tracks. I think one of them is also in Mac DeMarco's band.

This week: quite a lot of new stuff. Father John Misty, Future Islands, Imelda May, Happyness, Arca, Andrew Combs, Cold War Kids, The New Pornographers, Clark, Cotton Mather, Blaenavon, Deep Purple, Guided By Voices, Joey Bada$$, Karen Elson, San Fermin, The Big Moon, Michelle Branch, Timber Timbre, The Wooden Sky, White Reaper, Yorkston Thorn Khan, H. Grimace, Allred & Broderick, Cory Branan.

Pretty sure I've missed something there...

Kendrick's new album hopefully. Still hasn't been confirmed but everywhere expects it to be tomorrow. Wouldn't be surprised it's just another single released.

Looks like the best day for releases so far this year regardless. At least six or seven on that list that I'll try.
