New Build Homes - Best companies?

We’re looking at starting the process of buying a new home again.

Initially we were against a new build but we’re now coming around to the idea of it.

Saw one with ‘Bellway’ in Ryhope but when we went to view they said it had sold.

I know some of these companies are notorious for poor builds so just wondering what everyone else’s experience are and which companies seem to have the best builds?

Cheers!

My last place was a new build from Keepmoat , no issues with them , but do use a specialist snagging firm rather than doing it yourself, they will spot far more than you will

I know some have better reputations than others but it varies site manager to site manager, have a good site manager and you will generally get good homes being built.
Obviously some have slightly better spec too but you tend to pay for that, David Wilson is the higher end brand of Barratts, Charles Church the higher end Persimmon, there aren't a great deal of material changes mind from my experience.
Story generally build a good house or used to.

I used Persimmon and I do like the house (nice size rooms etc), but they seem a bit crap and their aftercare seems pretty shoddy.
Do not touch these with a very very very long barge pole. Regretted it since the day I moved in. Hopefully someone takes pity on me when it goes up for sale in the NY. If, and it’s a massive IF, I buy anothe NB it will be a builder who employs the trademen. Pertwatman use Subies for every part of the build and don’t give a shit about quality, damage etc. they’ve litteraly re built every house around mine 3/4 times….My mate is a site manager for Belway and says they are ok.

We’ve had Persimmon and Barratts and theyve both had problems. Nothing major, just a lack of attention. Theyre in such a rush to hoy things up. The quality of the Barratts one was a lot higher than Persimmon mind. Better layou / structure too with plenty of storage space.

Only one I know to really avoid is Gentoo - know a few people who have had Gentoo new builds and had nout but bother

When we were looking before we moved, we looked at most builders in the region. Persimmon looked ok, wimpy/charles church looked decent, amethyst and ascent were very good. We ended up buying an ascent (if you choose these, send @legend7 a pm for 25% SMB discount). The worst that we looked at was Gleeson, the show homes were a disgrace.

Persimmon and Charles church are the same company.

It varies from individual house to individual house I reckon, we’ve had no problems whatsoever (Barratt) but some neighbours have had all kinds of problems

Find the house you’re after, carefully consider the plot position on the development then pay for a professional to do your snagging before completion

All mass house builders more or less build houses in the same way with give or take the same materials

North road. Stopped building 6 month ago as all the out side land were to be Charles church houses. They applied to scrap that and build another 200 as with, on the site. Council have objected several times as the 1 entrance/exit is a death trap. When finished there’ll be over 1000 cars using it.

A new estate going up in seaham ready for next year by miller if that’s something you’d be interested in.

Aye but the finish quality in the wimpy/charles church looked better quality than in the persimmon. Miller looked decent as well, missed them off the previous as well as Barratt.
I looked at the same style Charles church site behind the old miners rescue station. Not much difference. ….one other thing, I know it’s nice to get a shiny (ha) nee house but personally I’d be looking at a couple of years old when all the snags are complete……..like Mine😂😂

When they first put the roundabout in there was loads of idiots driving up North Road and going the wrong way round the roundabout. Well worth the risk of a head on collision to save two seconds.
