NEPL 2022

Cricket in the younger generation has never been more popular when it comes to playing. Under 9s, 11s, 13s, 15s and 18s. When I first started playing late 80s it started under 13s and even then you hardly played any games at that age group. From an uneducated eye seems to be lots of young lads padding out second teams on a weekend
While ultimately it could be argued the experience will stand them in good stead it could also be said that playing long cricket matches against much better older players before they are ready could be helping them eventually turn there back on the game

People criticise the ECB but there’s a big wave starting to come through due to All Stars. I think a few years down the line when they start reaching 14/15 it’ll stem the decline in numbers.

Standard of league 2nd XI cricket dropping massively also a huge factor in players becoming disengaged. If it was a greater level of competition (and less of a step up to 1st XI cricket for those on that brink) more players may have returned post-pandemic. If element of competition isn’t there, for some th joy goes and can get the same socialising thrill playing golf or being busy through day and going along to watch last hour of 1st XI cricket with mates

Have done -reject from the Academy.
One to look at is Josh Allison - leading NEPL wicket taker at Felling, 20 year old at Durham University.
Quandary for Franklin is he wishes to accommodate promising fit youngsters like Paul Coughlin.
Just checked Oswell almost 24 year old, we need to have a re-look and I believe another county is giving him 2nd xi cricket at present? Seems bonkers to ignore. Will keep an eye on Allison, few regulars I know watch a lot of NEPL so will ask them.
