    Would you support a campaign?

Just a toe in the water but there's a few frigates in the 26/31 city class that's gonna need a name in the next few years and according to one of the Ships Names Committee they're open to suggestions.

My first pitch was that the oldest Trafalgar Square in the country is in Sunderland in recognition of how many people lost their lives in the battle from our town. And they're all commemorated too.

Rather they built it there, than name it after there

Too right. You obviously know more about it than I do but let’s do it.

We've had a flying boat named after the city, but a Navy ship would be good too.

We've never really built naval ships on the Wear unless we've been at war. I'm from a shipbuilding family and would like that too but it's never gonna happen.

Great idea to honour a City that has built so many Royal Navy ships, long ago admittedly. I'll sign a petition.

Great stuff, and spread the word too hopefully.

I've not clicked the link but HMS Newcastle sank in the same monsoon if it's the one off Pondcherry or whatever it's called.

Sounds too much like Mackemenemy which is too much like Lawrie McMenemy.

    Too much.

  10. Outrageous that we haven’t had one named after us for ages.
All of my family have been in the RN, including me uncle who was on Arrow during the Falklands

HMS Nyron has a sort of colonial ring to it that will suit us in the glorious post Brexit era.

True. It'll probably hit a rock and sink before getting out of port though (unless accompanied by HMS Evans).
