Michael Vaughan

Liking Trump isn't racist, the Moeen Ali thing is pretty thick/poorly thought out but wouldn't say it was necessarily racist, the Sri Lanka thing is clearly just a joke and the "nobody speaks English in London" one is like something your Dad would come out with. If he's racist based on those tweets then probably half the country are.

I think that the definition of "racist" must have changed in recent years as it seems that almost anything is now considered racist. According to the dictionary the definition of racist is:- "a person who is prejudiced against or antagonistic towards people on the basis of their membership of a particular racial or ethnic group". I fail to see how saying that nobody speaks English in London is racist as it's neither prejudicial nor antagonistic.

A few years ago we were in Luton Airport and I remarked to my wife that we seemed to be the only English people there which according to the new 2021 definition of racism makes me a racist. Life is getting dafter by the year

Saying that no-one speaks English in London is a lie based on a racist premise. The premise that there are no English speakers in London is quite obviously racist as fuck. What would motivate someone to say something like that? It's the kind of thing far right groups say to get absolute morons ranting about immigration.

I don't know what would motivate you to say that when you were in Luton airport, certainly sounds a bit racist. You can tell an English person by looking at them, can you? You can look around a (presumably) busy airport with hundreds if not thousands of people, and come to the conclusion that none of them are English?

Give it another 20 years and I dread to think what remarks will be classed as offensive.

FWIW I believe Vaughan has said it,with no intent to harm/more off the cuff.

The fact that its 'harmed' Rafiq in such a way is lamentable and had he spoke out at the time Vaughan would probably have apologised - had he not he could have taken him to the cleaners as he has done Yorkshire.

Vaughan's issue now is the fact he came out and denied it....sure there was big name celeb/sportsman who came out with a response to a similar scenario with 'I have no recollection of this event but if I what I said was misconstrued to cause offence then I'm deeply sorry and can only apologise'
But hes missed the boat on that and Rashid just torpedoed the next boat.
The fact that you claim he said it without intent to harm as an off the cuff remark just makes it worse. It is clear evidence that such comments were accepted and that the club was racist to its core. If it wasn’t Vaughan would have know it was wrong and would remember saying it. He claim that he didn’t say it or that he can’t remember makes it even worse.

How were you able to tell who was English by sight mate?

I see that you are trying to twist my words around by claiming things that were not said.

Believe it or not I have a pair of ears that are used for listening and of the large number of people sitting around us none of them were speaking in English.

It's an international airport, it'll be full of people from all over the world.

Pretty common scenario in an international airport mate

His tweet was "not many English people live in London...I need to learn a new language."

There is no mention of race there. If you associate non-English people or non-English speakers with a particular "race" then that's on you...maybe that's racist?

Alreet Vaughany?

Ah this and the other thread don’t half attract a certain type of poster…see the 6th form bedroom dweller now interested in cricket

If you're referring to me, I've played and watched cricket since I was a kid and made plenty of posts in this forum over the years - none related to racism until these allegations surfaced: https://www.readytogo.net/smb/search/414816/

Unlike you who has barely posted in here other than this thread and the other racism thread: https://www.readytogo.net/smb/search/414818/

What language did you speak when you got off the plane ? Fancy having people from other lands in an airport eh ?
