Mellborg - perennial back-up or future 1st teamer?

Yes but in those 2 minutes some of the resident experts on here have fully evaluated the lad and concluded that he's never going to be good enough.

As others have commented I doubt he was brought in as no 1 should Roefs leave.
Yr not wrong mate...think some people would learn with what we've brought in over the last few years with an exceptionally high hit rate.

Comparing him to Robin Roefs from day 1 😂...RR is an exceptional talent who is going to the very top, an amazing find and hopefully this lad will prove to be too.

Sorry, but what a load of 💩 that statement is. 🤦‍♂️

He’s a young lad who is learning the game at this level and believe it or not, he may well be coached to become better.

Unbelievable statement.
Considering Alisson made it to Europe at 24 and became one of the best goalkeepers in the world by IMPROVING his key weakness of distribution, that statement is definitely shite.

Martinez, you're using one of the best keepers in the world as a benchmark, Very unfair.
Lunacy marra...the lad has played 4 games, including a high pressure derby away from home, has looked decent and is by no means the finished article, but so far has been compared to Martinez, Pickford and Roefs, unbelievable 😂

You’re allowed to look at the attributes of a young player and decide they’re not going to make it we don’t have to believe that every player is going to make it

I’m a believer in giving people time to develop and am not one of those that thinks Rigg won’t make it I just don’t think Ellborg is going to

People like Martinez showed better promise than Ellborg is
Martinez hardly showed any promise as a youngster and was shipped out on loan to numerous clubs.

I mean, he made his professional debut in England in league two against Port Vale for Oxford and they lost 3-0.

It's a miracle he ended up at Villa and they took a massive gamble on him which paid off, and by then, he was 27.

Don't think he was expecting to play a game this season, so the few games he has had will have been beneficial either way, training with Roefs everyday will bring him on and he will be a better backup keeper for it next year.

I don't believe we will sell Roefs this summer, it'll be next year imo.

Ideal scenario:

Roefs stays next season
Experienced, homegrown back up brought in (or Patto comes back)
Ellborg and Young get Championship loans
27/28 season - Ellborg and Young come back and compete for #1 spot

Football is not your area of expertise

It was class…cool as a cucumber
He’s very iffy. Thank god Murphy was stood right next to him when pathetically parried that header into the net
That’s a ridiculous statement that mind
It’s really not. If he’s our number 1 next season we’re in bother
How? He's played 3 games and done ok. 2 of them at the hardest places we'll visit
The Leeds game we managed to defend like heroes while he was glued to his line. The mags he parried a few including the disallowed goal that he was very fortunate Murphy was offside and his kicking barely clears our 18 yard box, apart from that he’s world class 😂

Nobody is saying he's world class. How was he very fortunate an opposing player was standing right in front of him? It's also a massive lie about his kicking.

All in all you've just posted a massive pile of steaming excrement

That’s your opinion and mine differs, I just hope we aren’t in the situation where he is our number 1 next season or I feel we’ll struggle, his kicking puts pressure on us

I mean you've had a pop at him for a player standing offside on his toes stopping him saving a shot. It's not like you're being particularly fair

His wrists were proper sponges there tbf and another shot from distance he parried like a 10 year old. My mag mates were fuming the didn’t put pressure on him as they’d noticed how shaky he was. We are very fortunate to have Roefs, we just need to source a capable deputy now

You're being beyond harsh. It's your opinion so will leave you to it and think you're talking shite

He’s admitted he was shitting himself before his debut, but he’s looked decent to me. Not being as good as Roefs and not being good enough for the PL are two different things. I think he’ll be fine but hopefully won’t be first choice next season as I’m hoping we keep Roefs for one more season at least.

He’ll only get better you’d assume.
Can’t get why people keep writing players off. Hume was absolutely shite for us for his first few games, and that was in League one.
