Mellborg - perennial back-up or future 1st teamer?

Give the lad time ffs, he’s still learning
Roefs was 22 when he made his Sunderland debut. First time I saw him you could see how much confidence the back line had in him. Roefs was clearly ready for first team footy.

Not saying Mellborg won't develop into a first class keeper but, IMO, he isn't ready to be a first choice Premiership keeper.

Giving him say 20 games could be a masterstroke or wreck our season.

The hierachy will know what hes capable of currently.

I’d slightly disagree I think he has the basis of decent distribution, he can control it and his kicking isn’t too bad. Question for me is can he do it at the pace/speed required, at this level.

Roefs is a bit of a freak in that he has adapted so well and in terms of Pickford we are comparing him to possibly englands best ever keeper

That said if roefs left do I think Ellborg is ready now, no I don’t, but I don’t think the club would leave us with him as 1st choice and I also think he has potential to develop
This.. it’s about whether the lad can adjust to the pace.

Started three Premier League games, won two, conceded two, made some cracking saves, couple of dodgy long kicks, but didn't capitulate at Elland Road or St Brian Brobbey Park.

He's fine, man. But aye, might as well write him off.
And with a makeshift defence.

I think he’s a good keeper and should improve with each game. The difference between the two for me is that, Roefs makes saves you wouldn’t expect him to make which is why the big clubs are circling.

Back up for me. I know he's young but you don't develop distribution skills much more at his age in my opinion
e.g. Pickford was better in that regard at 17.

Would be lovely if he does develop into a PL 1st teamer, but I don't see it. If Roefs goes, we need better in.
I kind of see the OP’s point but it’s hard to take it seriously when he can’t be arsed to proofread his work.
