Short didn't sign Rodwell. He didn't fuck up the Alvarez deal. He didn't waste millions on Bridcutt, Buckley, Scocco etc. He didn't make a mess of the Johnson debacle. He didn't extend Cattermole's contract by 5 years.

I'm a critic of Short but he doesn't carry the can for some of this mess.
Every one of the above mistakes were made by someone appointed by Short.
The whole situation is an absolute mess.

masterminded rodwell deal offering him a contract without a relegation clause

Knew about the Johnson scandal and kept it quiet

Took a pay off and fucked off

Just one example of corrupt incompetent arseholes making the decisions that brought us to league one

a fat, ugly, stupid, insidious bitch, fat, ugly, rich, bitch -

That's the thing. Short may not be directly responsible for any of those moves directly but he was in charge of the people making those decisioms.

As an aside, a certain amount of transfer failure is allowed, TBH, 50:50 good vs bad deals is fine, 60:40 or more is excellent but we've been somewhere between 20:80, 10:90 and 5:95 for the last two or three seasons.

Why was a run of the mill solicitor put in charge of a large football club? More evidence of Shirt's incompetence.

She wasn’t even a ‘run of the mill solicitor’ - in that we were her very first job post training (in a completely unrelated field).

How on earth did she get the job?
She herself admitted that her Irish accent played a big part.
I love Quinny but his championing of completely unqualified Irish acquaintances into key positions at the club, still affects us today.

Margaret Byrne. A solicitor with absolutely no experience of running a professional football club being appointed as Chief Exec.

It’s decisions like this that I keep pointing out to those that say Short has been spending money and doesn’t deserve the level of stick he gets.

Add in the Congerton’s and Bain’s and Di Fanti’s we’ve had, is it really any wonder were in this state ?

that's not quite accurate, she was here as a legal director and company secretary prior to taking the role of CEO.

She was very well thought of both within the club and The FA.

However the mistakes she made were not and could not be revealed as being as bad as they were until years after the decisions were made.

we don't know if she took the rodwell non relegation to ES. Even if she did, it was a bad decision as the rest of the players had it in their contracts. as it did come into force, did she not realise, the poison it would be, between rodwell and the rest of the players. That is something GP, Congerton and Byrne should have considered

the aj case I don't know what she was thinking about. If she knew but was held by confidentiality, she should have absented herself from making decisions about it as a CEO.
Easy enough for her to explain. However she didn't.

She gambled heavily and to make it worse she knows the legal system, so if the worst was to happen, it 100% certain to be made public in both cases.

copied and pasted

"Byrne joined SAFC in 2007 as a secretary, and through hard work and ability progressed through the ranks to the top of the tree.

While staying very much out of the limelight, Byrne was nevertheless playing a pivotal role in shaping and directing the club. She was voted onto the Council of the Football Association by her peers as a Premier League representative, making her the first woman on the council, and she also got to sit on the Premier League Advisory Board".

as a solicitor she would have been trained in both criminal and civil law. She tried the criminal bit and decided to have a go at the civil side. Nothing wrong with that
As she had already been with the club for 4 years, it would make sense.

however unlucky for her, she made a real bad decision

A sensible post on several issues which were kept in house. I think it was Congerton who brokered the Rodwell deal and iirc their were several clubs after him. Perhaps we had to pay way over the odds and leave out clauses just to get him. The one of many times the Mags stepped aside. It's just our luck he turned out to be shite.

that is what is being said, as if to show our confidence that we were a top half premier league team and would remain so.

Scapegoat in the Johnson malarkey.
