I love Sunderland, but if I was 20 and playing for a city I wasn't from, 250 mile away from my family , and playing in the 3rd league, and I got the opportunity to play in league 1 in France and get paid far more, then I'd do it.
Why do fans always get offended when players want to leave to play at a higher standard for more money.
How dare they leave league 1 Sunderland!
Fair enough but there's no need to act like this.

All he needed to do was keep his down, work hard and try his best for as long as he was here. If the deal doesn't go through he only has a few months to play then he can go anyway. No need to treat the club and the fans like shite and force a move like this, totally unnecessary.

Moral victories? It's about the whole stance the clubs taking and how it's trying to operate in light of how much of a pushover it's been in the past. It's about getting value for money and not having players or agents take the piss, its about making sure people are 100%, making sure people are here for the right reasons, making sure the club have unity and are going in the right direction, not just a petty argument.
Well said marra.

Good deal to be fair. Hasnt really done owt until this season and you are where you are. The addons make it a good deal. If he goes and you get a proven striker like Grigg you are in the same position and better off financially.

It's a shite deal, but our hands are tied.

This is going to happen to us a lot, let's face it.

Kid's been here 3/4 years and obviously worked his socks off for a chance. He's taken the chance really well and from his point of view he'd be stupid not to consider a move. He's got a chance to progress and make more money too.

We are in a position where we're just too far down the pecking order to hold onto our real talent and we're very vulnerable financially. Unfortunately I reckon we'll see a few more leave in similar circumstances in the next year or so.

Asoro gone, now Maja. Who else could follow them?

You do know he will leave for nothing at the end of the season. We are a league 1 club and that 3.5 million could be spent on the team. Also, the player clearly doesn't want be here or he would have signed his contract.

Club keep him and he starts to misfire and we miss out on promotion and 3.5 million. The club sell him and we still miss out.

The club have a choice to make and only time will tell if it's the correct one.

If the reports are true, he wouldn't be here to keep anyway

There’s nowt we could do about it though, it depends what the owners now do.

Right but that's irrelevant to my Q.

Simply asking if a team has benefited from selling their top scorer in January to see if teams have benefited or if it's been a universal mess like it has been for us previously.

We all want promotion end of day mate.

It leaves us looking for another striker , it’s not impossible to find one ,after all maja hadn’t played for us first team wise until the end of last season ,we’ve just got to trust that we’ve got replacements lined up , I would think we have based on what I’ve seen from this regime up to now?
gut feeling is they want watmore to take majas place with a n other coming in

There will be some mate as it will have been done plenty in the past. No win situation though and I hope we are now looking for two strikers.

And yesterday he said he won't play for us again and packed his stuff up.

I realize ignoring this is the only way you can continue your agenda so crack on.

I just struggle to believe that he's going into training telling Ross he wants to stay and is going to sign an extension, then before we know it he's refusing to play and emptying his locker.

It doesn't add up for me.

Nothing you can do about it and sadly one of the downsides from relegation.
You simply have to sell and cash in before a free transfer.

This is the way of life at my Club unfortunately selling is survival.

Don't think it's about relegation......just player power and a savvy agent

You don't know if he's getting more money than we've offered him though.

No, you would guess that

It's the way he's gone about it.
If he had come out and said he wants to challenge himself at a higher level, or gain some new experiences playing abroad and ask to leave, no issue with that, shows ambition.
