I don’t blame him moving on, he ain’t a young kid anymore and we are a 3rd tier division club now.
But the way he has left takes the piss, I’d have wished him good luck to be honest.
I’m amazed he scored so many goals but no matter what people think we need to replace them goals and Charlie ain’t guna get them.
£3.5m reported, I’d be amazed if we get that based on his contract here.

Feel very let down if we met the demands of wages yet has not signed, don't know the full ins and outs, but if Maja really wanted to stay he would of done by early Jan, just hope we sign a replacement and maybe another for the step up if promoted .
promotion was a nice dream but isnt going to happen now

wonder what he's been like behind the scenes lately though. he's now effectively gone on strike

Didn't stevie G go to strike to leave Liverpool and the fans lined the street so he stayed.

I think Maja has been great this season & I'm disappointed he's decided to leave, but it may be that Bordeaux (or which ever club he goes to) made him an offer that was too good to turn down. It happens. I'm not bitter about it. We tried to change his mind, we failed. We can't do anything about it, so we accept it & move on, trusting that Ross & the owners will do their best to recruit a decent couple of strikers who can do a job at this level. Maja was good, but he's not indispensable....

Bordeaux?! What an odd destination. Just shows the little shitstain is, like most footballers, motivated by money, and cares not one jot about our club, nor fans.
I hope his career goes down the shitter. (Unless we have a sell on clause. Then I’d hope he gets a massive transfer.... then his career goes down the shitter!
I love Sunderland, but if I was 20 and playing for a city I wasn't from, 250 mile away from my family , and playing in the 3rd league, and I got the opportunity to play in league 1 in France and get paid far more, then I'd do it.
Why do fans always get offended when players want to leave to play at a higher standard for more money.
How dare they leave league 1 Sunderland!

Just on a separate point & this is a genuine question:

Can anyone remember a club selling their leading scorer in January when they were going for a title & benefiting?

Or even just in general selling the top scorer & playing better second half of season?

Limited data for us but losing Bent & Grabban killed us. Even some of the boys said about losing Bent on the RR podcast. McGeady criticised the manager for getting rid of Grabban on STID.

Yeah agree. It would have been good for his development if he was still here working with coaches that know him & his game however if we are in League 1 next year then he probably doesn't need another season in league 1. Whereas if Honeyman/Hume/Robson/Kimpioka/Mumba are in league 1 next year it would easily still aid their development

I think a lot of them will be off if we are still in league one personally, no footballer with ambition wants to waste time in this league, the standard is worse than I could ever have imagined

How do you know he's being paid "far more" than what we've offered?

I think it’s an unnecessary gamble like

How is it a gamble and unnecessary? Surely keeping him and losing everything in the hope we get up as we are is a gamble too? At least this way we've money coming into the club even if it isn't all upfront and puts us in a healthier position to invest. Certainly hope we get incoming transfers and his replacement right and there's no guarantees there, but keeping him at this stage given finances and his and his agents stance would have gone against every single thing we've been trying to do and correct since Short left. I can see why people are worried, but they're losing sight of any long term strategy because of one unproven player above this level.
