2-3 years is the kind of commitment I expect, he doesn't want to be there, why would you play him? How will that help team spirit? Are ye thick?

Well considering many of the other players will understand that they will one day be expendable if we get promoted, or hope to play well and move up the leagues and earn more money, they will probably understand exactly what is happening is just part of football, you cretin.

I don't know what you think Maja is. He's not going into the dressing room and whispering in peoples' ears that they should try and leave cos SAFC are shite. He has earned himself the option to make his choice by playing well, and other footballers understand that. We will see others leave when we don't want them to, and we will take advantage of that when we sign players. We are not unique and we will be both the victim and the aggressor in these situations many more times.

why would Maja stroll into the gaffa's office to say he wants to sign if he doesn't want to sign??

Maja - "hi Mr Agent, just been in to tell the boss that I'm wanting to stay. I'll be in touch to get it all sorted, yeh?"

Mr Agent - "Are you fuckin serious?! I've got Man City lined up for you here and you've gone and told Jack Ross that you want to stay? Are you insane?"

Maja - "ah shit... I'll hold off then, yeh?"

Mr Agent - "Hi Sky Sports? Just letting you know that my client Josh Maja has told me he won't be signing the new deal today".

This is what makes no sense to me. His agent will have told him all along not to sign. Not just last night after he’s told the club he wants to.

i agree with you in relation to social media use generally by the owner...but in this case he had to spike skys story and there is no quicker way..

Give owa man. There’s an official social media operation, press officer and a website. His second in command is a PR man. If collectively they genuinely thought this was the best and most efficient way to spike this story, I.e with a series of emotive tweets rather than a quickly but well put together statement using their PR experience, then it looks like it’s amateur hour

The comments from Donald are so so so unhelpful, he is just shafting his own manager here.

Of course he isn't . He is putting the position as it actually was and is in the public domain. It may not be the way you or I would wish it, bit I'd believe it before any agent that has ever existed.

At graft, can someone tell me what’s happened?
Maja went to see Ross yesterday and told him he wanted to stay and would sign the deal. Today Sky contacted Donald as they had been contacted by Majas agent saying he won't be signing. Donald told Ross who pulled Maja to one side and he told him that his agent has told him not to sign the deal. Donald has tweeted this and also that We offered what they had asked for. People on here are pissing themselves saying Donald shouldn't have tweeted anything.

Yea a 20 year old doesn't want to sine, but you're still on ya knees begging him to stay

Right - I will keep this simple

From what we understand the 20 year old did want to sign (or sine in your world), his agent (as they mostly all are) is greedy and will make more money if Maja moves.
So the agent contacted Sky to say he won’t sign

Let’s wait and see what happens rather than condemning our best player before we know more facts

He’s entitled to do what he wants. Ultimately he owns the club. But I don’t think playing these things out on social media in a ‘u ok hun?’ fashion is befitting of a club like Sunderland. Do it properly through official channels and in a well thought out manner. This was reactionary stuff I’d expect to see on here from the likes of me not from our owner

I understand the point you're making. It's just Donald's style, which is a complete contrast to what we've had in the past. I don't think it's going to change the situation with Maja whatever he does.

You seriously think he should have tweeted that :eek::lol:

ffs mate haway

The agent's put Maja in a shit position, massively unhelpful to a lad just breaking through in the game.

Maja needs to have a think about whether this agent is acting in the best interests of his career both now and going forward. Hopefully the club can plant a few seeds of doubt in his mind about this too.

I personally believe what Donald is tweeting. Club have done all they can to sort this in the right way for both player and club, otherwise the bullshit of will he/won't he sign just drags on. It's been going on for months now anyway.

Pragmatic decisions now need to be made on whether to cash in at best price and replace this window. Or let him run contract down and play him if we think he will maintain form, and be unaffected by this situation. Then either take the tribunal cash or persuade him to sign a new deal in summer.

The best thing we can do as fans is get behind the lad. It's shit for us (as usual)but if we start hammering him it potentially affects his performance, in turn our chances of promotion and the money we'll get for him if he does go.
Really ? its not going to happen.

The biggest clubs in the world lose players this way.
Paul Pogba for one !!!!!!

They absolutely do. But I’ve not once seen Mansour, Glazer or Abromovich take to twitter to deal with it in this fashion

Why would it matter if he did? No need for that like

Because it can be an explanation for unusual spelling patterns. The lad was taking all kinds of shit for it, and it was a possible reason why; if it was indeed the case, then the flak would have been totally unjustified. He's now said its just down to trying to type too quickly. I have in-laws with dyslexia, and my wife has published dyslexia-friendly versions of her books. I was defending the lad not having a go.

I find the whole thing very strange, I don't like the comments from the owner either, I don't understand why he is trying to say stuff like that

He has just completely turned all the fans against our best player and best chance of promotion

No he hasn’t. He has even tweeted that the fans should get behind Maja.

Yet again you’ve chosen to take an opportunity to be negative about the chairman.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, you have an agenda against the new owners / the club.

Whether you’re linked to a player / players or had an interest in a consortium that failed in a bid to take over the club, it’s absolutely apparent that you have an agenda here.

Sorry like but there is an inbetween what Short was doing and this, we are Sunderland not eastleigh ffs.
