Worried playing the remaining games could lead to injury an scupper a big move. Not coronavirus fears due the BAME community being more at risk.

Very poor behaviour that, as his goals give Charlton their best chance of staying up.

Clubs should avoid that attitude like the plague.

30-years-old, increased risk of injury in these circumstances, spent almost his entire career in lower league.

He'll have a huge life changing offer on the table. You can't expect him to give it up and it sounds like the manager understand and respect his decision.

He would have played had the season not been suspended the length it has.

That's more the point and if that was our player he'd be hated for years to come if relegated. Just look at Bent and didn't even get relegated.

Little selfish Tory mug

It’s better he’s honest about it now rather than underperforming in matches and not trying. It’s not professional but he’s looking after himself, if it was the other way around, nobody would say anything.

If he was absolutely shite, Charlton would have no problem in releasing him and not extending the contract, just like any other club out there.

We’ve never have anyone do that..............or have we?

I actually agree with him.

we’re asking players to come in after months of not playing and squeeze in ~9 games in roughly a month, without a proper pre-season equivalent.

The likelihood of picking up an injury is increasing.

He’s 30, never really earned big bucks and has one last contract offer that will set him and his family up for their lives.

No brainer for me

True, but they'd have to pay him in full no mater how shite he was or how bad his attitude would be. 2 sides to a contract. He should give any salary back to the club for the period he doesn't wish to play. Only fair.

He’s not being paid along with the two other players who are doing the same thing.

If it were the other way around he'd be paid in full. Currently players have too much power. This may change following the end of this season.

Has that been confirmed? If so contract cancelled early. Still won't be enough for Charlton fans. Club could actually have a case to sue for loss of earnings if they go down. If anyone else under contract withdrew labour in such a way they'd be serious repracussions. Footballers should be no different.

A Charlton director said so on the radio. Whether it’s true or not I don’t know.

Good players have power because they know clubs want them. The rest are at the mercy of the club.
