Been an immense servant, if he wants to go and play football who can blame him, if he wants to stay and warm the bench then that’s fine. I wish him all the best regardless. Great fella.

We don't know what his motives are. Maybe moving away from his young family is too important to him
Maybe spending all week on the training ground with Xhaka and Le Bris is more appealing to him long term than going out on loan
Maybe he has other responsibilities away from playing
Maybe he is just happy
I assume he’s thinking about what the next few years holds.None of those clubs will offer him PL money. Hes not getting any younger so I think he will stick around.
Yeah he won’t be here past this season
They have made an effort to keep links between old and new and it’s worked
But LON will want to play footy he’s still really young
He’s 31 mate
He’s probably got at least 5 or 6 playing years left
I dunno why people are going on likes he’s gonna retire and coach
Was one of best defenders in the championship last year man
Absolutely just think we will hold onto him till end of season.
I dont think hes going to retire. We gave him a new contract though so we must have some plan for him. He may want to just go out on loan.
And we need english players.
Did his job on the touchline against cityI get the feeling that he still contributes massively albeit off the pitch. I certainly wouldn't begrudge him doing whatever he likes. Fabulous servant to the club.
I’d have him at this club at whatever role he’s most suited to forever. He’s not one of these ex pros who play 40 games and fuck off and then try and associate when you do alright because they played a few times (you, Joey)
The lad is Mr Sunderland, he’s stayed here through thick and thin. Mostly thin. He’s played games in the Prem, for us, despite being hooked at half time on his debut. Despite a load of people doubting his ability, his versatility, his heading ability.
If he wants to go play games then so be it, we owe him that. Personally I think he’ll be useful, even now
He’s done what everyone on this forum has ever wanted, gave his all for this football club, on and off the pitch.
You talk some shite mind. He's demonstrated what his character is since the day he arrived. If he's happy not playing football he's not the character we think
If he wants to go we can't stand in his way, but I wouldn't ask him to go, in fact I would ask him to stay but he might want to just play football every week cause he's a top bloke.Been an immense servant, if he wants to go and play football who can blame him, if he wants to stay and warm the bench then that’s fine. What if him leaving frees wages for a player who will actually play this season? Also the lad deserves more than to be kept around to be a glorified cheerleaderIf he wants to go we can't stand in his way, but I wouldn't ask him to go, in fact I would ask him to stay but he might want to just play football every week cause he's a top bloke.
but if the club are trying to force it through, it's the wrong decision. Ask him what he wants first. He is better for us in the dressing room, and I hope he starts in the FA Cup.

I dont think we need to worry about freeing up wages this season. What if him leaving frees wages for a player who will actually play this season? Also the lad deserves more than to be kept around to be a glorified cheerleader
I dont think we need to worry about freeing up wages this season.
Like I said above, ask the lad what he wants and if he wants to leave we support him.
