Looks like I was right about Brexit causing problems for UK football

Yes but the difference now is we will not be able to get the second tier of available players from 27 countries as they will not be eligible to play.....This means we will have to buy the poorer UK based players which will bump the price and we will end up paying top dollar for shite players when we could have had quality from the EU at a fraction of the cost.....This has the potential to kill the Premiership as a commercial entity (not hugely bothered about that) but could result in scores of clubs going bankrupt as they will potentially be plunged into millions and millions of debt as TV money dries up and players are still on massive long and expensive contracts....It will be like our demise on steroids.

Alternatively, clubs will focus more on their production of youth players and not spend a load trying to keep up with the Joneses.

I reckon it's far more likely football will remain barely affected, EU nationals come in and contribute massively to the country, it will be worked out.

Will make the inequality even worse as the top teams will recruit the eligible players leaving teams like us fucked. Could burst the sky TV bubble too imho. Without the worlds best players then why would Sky bid its billions next time the deal comes round?

Brexit could have 'hugely damaging' effect on football clubs, say chairmen

Hopefully, the vast amount of money being thrown around is ruining British football.

That literally has fuck all to do with Brexit like. You can manipulate any statistic to fit an agenda.

Can say the same thing about both sides of the fence.

Problem is this has been the fall back position for 2 years as they kicked the can down the road.....Issue now is there is no more road to kick it down. We need answers and need them now as even in something like football the uncertainty is stopping clubs planning and budgeting. How on earth can we be in a position where every company in the land could face massive and radical change in just a few months and are still not being told what they are planning for?

yeah its a disaster. Thats why we have unemployment at a 40 year low

Real unemployment isnt like. Theres an awful lot more under 18s and over 60s working skewing the stats and also if you adjust for 37hr weeks instead of zero hour contracts or self employment then its not as low the early to mid 90s

That's a political issue and one I don't think either of us will change the others mind. I guess time will tell.

Gotta stop reading the Guardian, Muffin !!

I said the same two years ago. Those who mentioned “A short shock” then are now talking about a ten year economic shock now. It seems he doesn’t live in this country and money appears.to be made through brexit by him. It isn’t only football that will suffer. Can anyone imagine someone having voted for something, then still supporting it after being told, you will be poorer for ten years mind.

All well and good if clubs have time to adjust to the new scenario but they wont, the landscape in terms of future transfers will change over night....It will mean huge pressure on clubs in our position as all of a sudden our youngsters will be creamed off by clubs further up the pile who can no longer sign EU players that are not playing the majority of internationals.......With huge amounts of talent, quality players from places like Belgium, France and Germany will not be able to come to the UK as their squads are so good they could struggle to get in.

So for instance Leroy Sane did not get into the Germany world cup squad so it could end up with players of that quality not being able to get into England as they dont meet the criteria for entry ie playing a certain percentage of their international games, its insane.

Project Fear, it's f***ing everywhere !!

Its the dawning of reality you can see mate......End freedom of movement and it will kill the movement of european players into the english leagues. All the top talent will still be eligible to come but the top talent does not end up at clubs outside the top 6 in the Premiership. The divide will just grow and grow.

Far more likely that the big teams will break off into their European superleague which Wenger alluded to a few month back.

I bet Brexit doesn't cause problems for the likes of Man United, Man City, Liverpool and Arsenal amongst other big English club's from joining!

Fact is, the top teams are the reason all the English club's continue to spend more and more money every season....it's where the money comes from, if they leave for a super league then the likes of Sky will not be dumping as much cash into the pot as they do now.

It's going to happen and it's been in the planning long before Brexit even had a name.

Theyve talked about it for decades and have it in some respects with the Champions league.....Cant see it will ever get beyond that as too much money to be earnt domestically for top teams....At the moment teams like Man United cream off the money from Sky and the champs league on top, they wont be giving that up anytime soon.

The rest of the teams will get fucked in March as freedom of movement stops over night and we can no longer recruit from the EU........

The next Asoro will end up in Germany, Spain or Italy as they will not be eligible to come here.

It could also mean that we develop our own young players and bring them on through, and give them game time to develop, so our players develop the skills levels...........look at Bales, we could have more like that if grass roots develops and nuture

our own players right. Put in the money and let us get the homegrown to a better standard. Why would we want 2nd tier from 27 countries if we can provide home grown as we used to no problem
