The “ultra low emission zone” fee of £12.50 a day is expected to raise up to £1.5bn a year compared to the congestion charge which raises £230m. The money raised will go to Transport for London. Almost all petrol and diesel cars built before September 2015 will be afffected.

Good thing?

Only if it keeps cars out of the city.

If people pay it and whinge it won’t have worked and it becomes obvious that cars will always win for convenience.

It’s a genuine public health hazard.

There is an alternative to driving in London with public transport being so good so if you want to drive then paying more seems the best way of investing in services . I hope they drop the charges on strike days of the train drivers/ signallers though as the alternative is removed on those days . I would use public transport more if I could. Unfortunately, we have no option but to drive in Cornwall.

£12.50
Not even a half a lager a day
Not worrying about drink driving as you have left your car at home, you could spend it in the pub on the way home

Getting stuck in traffic, getting lost and not being able to park/paying a fortune to park when you get there. Driving is the least convenient way to get to central London.

Only if some of the money is diverted north to invest in infrastructure to create top jobs & thereby easing the burden on London.

The country is far too Londoncentric then they need to do stuff like this. If they just thought about the rest of the country, then London might not have ended up grossly over populated.

Wonder where the extra 9% expected growth in London’s population by 2026 will live then.

Haven't driven in London for years. It's a miserable experience and tends to be slower than any other method of transport other than walking
