This isnt new information. We've known that for weeks. The name drop is irrelevant though. He's the man in the job right now.

I think it is relevant. It’s signposting that he’s here for the long haul.

Look, I hope they do well. Of course I do. But I can’t get excited by this and I think anyone who is are either fooling themselves or are punch drunk

Now that things are happening, certainly. The appointment seems right - as does the remit. I've said all through this that I understand why people are on edge due to the dreadful Donald regime. We know that this type of appointment is not the sort of thing we'd get from Donald. Indeed he's said on more than one occasion he doesn't believe in this sort of system. And while Johnson wouldn't have been my pick, I'm happy to let the new man make decisions based on his own criteria. Basically, from now until I have reason to believe otherwise, Trust The Process:)

Edit: so long as Methven keeps his incompetent snout out of the road anyway!

Absolutely this. The remit sounds excellent, the SD sounds like he understand the need to communicate the project to the fans and include them as well. When you listen to his interview about the need to get promoted, but then to consolidate and slowly improve in the Championship, you can almost see what the thinking is with Johnson. He wouldn't be my choice, but Speakman gets my trust and support until a time comes when he no longer warrants it.

His interview seems quite promising. Mentions that it's going to be a long term project, and I doubt that SD would have invested in that.

It also sounds like he's the one making the appointment.
I can't believe that a bloke who appears to know what he's doing would allow himself to be hired by the present owners. He'll know what's been going on at SAFC.

OK. Now draw the logical conclusion from that.

In fairness my initial response to the names in the frame was “those feel like old regime appointments”. Tony Coton and Jack Ross with different titles.

The statement has gone a fair way to allaying those fears.
I'll be perfectly honest I'm not sold on Johnson, marra. But I'll give the new lad the chance to make his decisions. I'd be a hypocrite not to in all honesty. This is the structure and remit that I've wanted at SAFC for donkeys years.

Aye that’s exactly what people were expecting...

There has been much talk about takeovers and full scale revolution with exciting plans. In reality, we have an existing owner, the same CEO, a modestly successful youth team coach from the second tier and a manager with no real managerial achievements to speak of.

Were in league 1 what do you expect?

You aren't going to get a glittering CV at this level. Johnson is a bit meh but for our level he's an ok appointment.

Every article has said the new owner wanted a sporting director and today we appoint one. You are choosing to believe there is no takeover despite this one significant event

Agree with you. If we are going down this road then we need to do it properly.

Positives with Johnson are attacking football and bringing young players through.

Negatives are his potential ceiling but that’s one league above and if he can’t break it he will be replaced.

Watch the interview mate. It's very interesting. There is no doubt who's running the show, football-wise, now.
That interview is one of the most impressive I’ve seen, very very encouraging. I’m not sure why anyone who’s watched it wouldn’t be impressed.

As I said a few days ago there’s a ‘head of football’ being appointed and he’s touched on that in his interview and said they’re looking for a ‘head of player acquisitions’.

That’s already done too btw.
