Keep feeding those birds during the snowy weather

Had a Jay in the garden this morning, bonny buggers they are.

I saw one for the first time in my garden last year. I was unbelievably excited by it. Sat holding my breath for a good 5 minutes today watching a nuthatch attack a suet block. Then as it departed a tree creeper arrived. So another 5 mins of not moving. Both lovely to see.

Was just looking out at the snow and noticed a robin was eating seed on the bird feeder. The outside light is on. I didn't think they fed this late at night!

Because they are “Townies”
Had to put a Redwing out of its misery yesterday after if was hit by a passing car.
Sad to see it as a lovely bird.

mrs just fed them , was encircled by them as putting food out ( blackbirds, spuggies, robins ) like a scene from hitchcock movie.

on another note do voluntary work at farm/wildlife area, went along yesterday to check birs had been fed ( feeders next to hide ) and nice to see a squadron of fieldfare in the trees.

Get loads around here, the sky is full of them around dusk with their distinctive call.

Sunderland every winter used to get flocks of waxwing, the echo used to report their arrival, do they still turn up?

Yeah typically the female's colour is somewhat diluted. Against all of the snow he looked absolutely stunning.

Sparrowhawk on the fence yesterday morning. Nice to see
Saw some nuthatches enjoying the seed we put out in Hall Lee Bank Park. I'd never seen them before and now it's almost a guarantee to see them.
Which is nice.

had a brainwave yesterday to make up my own mixture using the residue fat from the morning fry up

weetabix, oats, currants, sunflower hearts all mixed in with the fat. Put it on the floor for the blackbirds and was astonished how quickly it went..... until the Mrs told me the dog ate it

we do that with any bits of oil or fat left over from frying or roasting. stick some porridge oats in to soak it up.

We've had them around here as there's loads of rowan trees in the woods. They turn up, strip them and move on. Bloody immigrants, coming over here and stealing our berries!

Had about 25 what I think were starlings in the yard today and a wagtail which was a new visitor.
