Just back from Canada

I've been here since June 2018 and come back to the UK in June 2019.

7 months in Montréal (loved it), within which I found time to also visit Québec City (11 days for the festival d'été headlined by Neil Young and the Foo Fighters), Lac-Mégantic, Toronto (boring, anywheresville), Niagara Falls (not that high!), New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia (all good in their own way but Halifax and Cape Breton in NS won it for me); also dove down to New England for 12 days driving, also New York and DC.

Got to BC in February and have to say Vancouver as a city is very underwhelming. Breathtaking scenery around but just not that interesting a city. On Vancouver Island now. Victoria is lovely so far; between now and June I still have the rest of the island, Jasper, Banff, Calgary, Kelowna, Seattle and LA to visit.

I'll not lie, it's been a blast and I don't even care how much it sounds like I'm boasting. I bloody am!

In Toronto’s defence, it’s a great city to live in. Loads of neighbourhoods with their own feel. Tons of independent bars and restaurants, food from anywhere in the world, great parks, the islands, amazing summers, rooftop bars and patios...

It doesn’t have many ‘sights’ - once you’ve seen the CN Tower you’ve pretty much done it - so I can see that some people who might come for a night or two en route to Niagara and not stray from the area bordering Yonge, University and Queen streets might be a bit underwhelmed, but I love it.

I just wish it was closer to the mountains. Try to do Sulphur Mountain in Banff at sunset if you can.

Got loads of family in BC along the Fraser valley. Been there often and love it. Daughter and family are settled and naturalised out there now. One of me grandkids is on an internship in Langley right now. Superb style and pace of life out there.

Ah Canada... I saw a documentary about it once - the beaches , the prawns on the BBQ and the tinned larger. Still... life must be pretty hard away from the cities in all that heat with only thousands of sheep for company.

Love Canada, been over 3 times now, first trip was to Windsor,2nd one was Toronto and the 3rd we stayed in Cambridge but toured about a bit, niagra falls,Toronto,Ottawa,Montreal
My mates over there are Toronto FC season card holders so we always go to a game when we are there

Only really spent much time in Calgary and Banff

I worked in Calgary for a while and got to known the place pretty well. Loved it.

Cold though.

Not wrong Brass monkey weather.

Got family over there, some in Quebec City, bloody hate us English, put up with me as family, hated my military mates with a passion.

Did not stay with them to long like :rolleyes::lol:

Worked a ski season in lake Louise. Amazing scenery, f***ing freezing, and didn’t drive. Getting around is a right clart on.

Not a care in the world, and had a great time though
