Yes I do seem to remember you saying that about Rory Burns. You see some great statistics from players on the county circuit until they get in the test team. Last time Bairstow went back to county cricket about 3 years ago he only played a few games and was just about the top run scorer in the country.
some of the problem in my opinion is that due to the world cup, bairstow, root etc just haven't played enough red ball cricket this summer.

Exactly imho, and the point of this match from an England perspective is to get them into a red ball frame of mind and the evidence says it was much needed.
Aussies too doing the same via a different route.

Unfair to single him out in tests. There's a few in the current England test team who shouldn't be playing that format of the game.

I know people say I'm biased when it comes to this argument, but honestly I couldn't give a fuck who plays for what county - I just want to see England as good as they can possibly be, especially against the Cons.
For me, Foakes is indisputably a far better keeper than Bairstow. That's not to say JB is a shit keeper by any means - but Jordan Pickford isn't a shit goalkeeper, but still streets behind the likes of Allison.
Also, the batting - Bairstow in the last two years averages 23. The amount of times he gets bowled - and I know he got a beauty today, but how many times does he get one? - would embarrass a tailender.
Foakes would be a better bat at the moment, and also Bairstow is a bit of a dasher - Foakes with the bat is compact, and more of a Test match batsmen. He won't necessarily play the occasional match winning innings that YJB can (not that we've seen it for a while, mind), but he'd be far more consistent, and churn out the sort of middle order runs we need.
It really should be a no brainer now.
Disagree. He's an inferior WK to Foakes, and on a par with Buttler - he's in the side because of his batting, effectively. We absolutely should be pointing out his awful form.
And it's not as if this form is a flash in the pan - it's been a constant for at least the last two and a half years.

You honestly can't excuse that. And you can't just say "well, he got a good ball!" every time.
He has developed a clear technical flaw - clearly as part of his ODI game - and in two and a half years, hasn't been able to rectify it.
Ben Foakes, the most overater cricketer in history, he is OK no more.
I have spent a lot of time working at Surrey this year, seen a fair bit of him, and Curran, he has been bang out of form, no way he should be in the test side.
Picking someone not making 100s in CC is not what is required.
People just pick a name and run with it, like Dominic Sibley too, maye he will do OK, who knows, bit there have been not great players left out who should have played
