I don't think anyone is saying any thoughts on the subject have been polished up by someone. Any article a sportsman does in a paper is ghost written to an extent but it's mental to suggest he's been forced to put it on there when he may think something different

Written on behalf of him and signed off by his agent probably, I would be surprised if Root had even read them. Its a PCA report, they would need a quote from a high profile player, and that's what it is.

Contract obligations completed, jobs a good 'un.

As I said (before I got accused of being a conspiracy theorist ), I neither know nor care what his actual opinion is, and it doesn't really matter anyway.

It's pretty certain that Root knew about the article credited to him but I think I can say with absolute confidence that Root doesn't read this board so why the hell does matter if there's a few invectives posted about him?

That people can have impeccable careers like Strauss and Root, yet the moment they suggest a change that people have every right to disagree with.

Rather than just doing that the abuse and name calling comes out, simply don’t like it and think they deserve more and better respect

First thing I would do is have one short format tournament not two, and would change it from 100 balls to T20.

No other country has two short format tournaments

That’s not correct. At least India and Pakistan both have two, one for the franchises and one based on the more conventional domestic structure. Neither of them is daft enough to use the hundred ball format though.

Fair enough like I said in the post you quoted would change the main competition to 20 overs and have a designated window for that competition similar to other countries.

Don’t think in this country two T20 competitions or short format competitions there is time to fit both in and give red ball cricket enough time to achieve correct balance between the two

I’m very confident that John Filby is better placed to give his opinion on this than Joe Root.

The solution to making the game ‘safer’ for players is actually incredibly simple.

Scrap the 16.4.
Reduce the number of Blast group games.

Job done.

I am confident that John Filby is better placed than Joe Root to comment on how changes to the schedule might impact the commercial position of the counties, and particularly the commercial position of his county. I am less confident he is in a better position to judge the impact of the schedule on fitness and welfare.

Not that being better placed from your own experience to come to a judgement means that you necessarily come to the right one of course. It is perfectly possible to be both informed and wrong. As I think Root is in this case.

I suspect the absolute last thing Filby would want to do would be to reduce the number of home blast games his county has since this is probably pretty much the only thing Sussex stages that makes any money at all.

Y’know, I’m not so sure that’s true. Now perhaps I’ll concede that Filby isn’t best suited to comment on what it’s like for players fitness and welfare in having to deal with the rigours of a season on the county treadmill, but neither really is Joe Root.

I fail to see how reducing the number of county games would mean better cricket when it would obviously devalue the competition and render it meaningless as 14 is the minimum not the optimum. If your objective is good Test cricket, bowlers need to bowl long stints and batsmen long innings' and fielders - slippers and other close catchers need to be able to use those skills in a competitive context.

And I see they now saying travelling to different grounds in a health and safety hazard! Bluddy hell. Health and safety gone mad,

If you’re doing a root and branch review of domestic cricket, EVERY single aspect of domestic cricket has to be considered. That’s why Strauss’ Review was massively flawed.

As someone else put so eloquently previously, it’s like having a review into how the Ukraine conflict started, without being allowed to consider any influence by/from Russia.
