Playing Devil’s advocate again, the situation in India when lots of them will have flown out to when IPL started was nowhere near what it is now, if you take what was being reported at the time at face value of course.
We had been in country on tour for two months, they were easing restrictions to the point they were allowing fans in the stadiums and to all intents and purposes had supposedly cracked it.
There certainly weren’t people dying in the street and round the clock human cremations going on.
It therefore strikes me as a bit unfair to slate the likes of Buttler or the Aussies for being there now it’s all gone to rat shit.
To be clear, I have no great love of IPL, I think it’s probably institutionally corrupt and think the money involved is vulgar.

Certainly some truth in that. however
1) it’s still going on
2) players left international tours/cancelled tours for far less
3) there was an IPL only a few months ago
4) bubble fatigue is difficult clearly. Those that prioritise the IPL (given point 3) having missed internationals deserve criticism
5) the bullshit from Australians who think the govt owe them, having been silent over the plight of their fellow citizens is poor form. Slater whining like a bitch on twitter looking for sympathy, having never once mentioned the situation in country is absurd

There’s little doubt it should be called off, especially in light of the positive tests.
The only reasonable argument for it continuing, in that it gives people entertainment and enjoyment in these difficult times, especially in India, is increasingly hollow in my opinion.
I’ve little time for Australian cricketers as a collective and I’ve never liked Slater, but it still seems harsh to me to blame them for finding themselves in a situation that they couldn’t be blamed for thinking was unlikely to occur given how things appeared in India at the time.
I have no idea and certainly no interest in what the likes of Slater have to say, but the idea that professional sportsmen could be self serving and hypocritical doesn’t exactly come as a massive shock to me.
The prioritising of IPL over international cricket is a contentious issue for sure & has been done to death on here so no desire to go over it again, but i repeat I have no love of the IPL and for me Test cricket comes first second and third.
That said, I am open minded enough to understand why the players might see things differently.
I’m not blaming them for finding themselves there. They’ve made a choice. It’s the wailing that the government should bail them out, when they should be way down the queue vs their other citizens that grates
I find it remarkable that a country can prevent its citizens from returning home in general, but that’s another topic

I think you are misremembering, cases were rising and rising when the IPL started.
The England tests were ages ago, the T20s and ODIs had no crowds, it was getting worse and worse.
Not wanting to antagonise here but you are simply getting your timeline wrong.
Are you sure it was Morgan’s decision in South Africa? Was it the players decision to miss the India Tests or was it the selectors? The situation in India has escalated rapidly, I think the players can be forgiven somewhat for not having seen it coming.
Slaughtering them for being greedy and/or hypocrisy is slightly unfair in my view, albeit I have no time for many of them and think the money & gaudy nature of the IPL is unpleasant to say the least.
I realise I am contradicting myself here.
The last point is interesting, and I dont know where I stand, but considering the success NZ and Oz have had in keeping out the virus, you'd say it has worked.

It has worked. But they should have been able to manage it with strict quarantine. The job of government is to protect your citizens, not some of your citizens
I’ve not seen any wailing (not saying there hasn’t been any) and no interest in it if there has but as I say it would come as no shock if there has.
I’ve limited sympathy with them in any case, as I think has been my attitude in general during the pandemic.

there’s an argument to say though that if you leave, against government advice, to work in a country with a high infection rate, then that’s kind of your fault

the advice in Australia is not to travel overseas
I do have sympathy with people stuck abroad, but I dunno considering how few risks have Australia have took, I’m not sure what they were expecting
just reading IPL chairman says it’s unlikely to go ahead this month but they will complete it
