Home Schooling

I'm sure there are two sides to home schooling and a minority of children participating (or not) in it may well be those refusing or being expelled from formal education. That, however, does not prove that home schooling is inadequate or in any way inferior. As you say more children than ever are rejecting formal education and I think a lot more could be done to provide alternative means of education for them which, who knows, others may also prefer. Doing something is better than doing nothing.

The people I know who've done it are mainly parents of children with special needs who are really being failed by the system in mainstream but the kids have SN to the point they're not going to get EHCPs or access to specialist education. I've given serious thought to doing it with my youngest this year with a real bad-apple of a teacher who refuses to adapt anything for any of the kids in her class with SEN... won't carry out anything on the children's provision maps and I've caught her out in active lies to the SENCO numerous times this year. Other parents have come up against similar but were too scared to blow the whistle on it all - I'm the one sticking my head above the parapet and saying what's going on but it's absolutely done a number on the family altogether and I've considered withdrawing the little one from school since she's basically getting fuck all education or making any progress there at the moment - but it's the friendship groups that keep me sending her. The other teachers in the school are fantastic incidentally - it's just this one nightmare teacher and we're trying to survive the year basically.

Everyone, and I mean everyone I've ever come across in my professional capacity, that has been home schooled, has been; parent-dependent, isolated, socially inept, unqualified, awkward.

That’s the biggest problem with home schooling. I still have friends now that I made when I was 4/5 years old. Staying at home as a kid is about the worst preparation for life imaginable.
