Anyone got any tips on best way to get it down? Been to the docs and they want to put me on tablets but I want to try and get it down naturally before I do that.
I'm 46 and probably drink about 40 to 50 units of alcohol a week which obviously doesn't help but I do get quite a lot of exercise. My diet isn't too bad. Never add.salt and I'm vegatarian. Thanks for all replies.

I think sometimes it can be genetic. Lose weight I would say.

Lose weight , drop caffeine, moderate exercise regular , don't smoke , drink less alcohol , watch for hidden salt in processed food.

You've answered your own question.

Your diet sounds fine as its usually prcessed and red meats that do the damage especially if Fried As You have identified the drink wont help even with lots of exercise--I know from my own similar experiences aged about 50.
I was advised to add certain nuts to oats which are advised for HBP and Cholesterol and also get this magazine for dietary notes (my diet was worse than Yours!)

I eventually had to take tablets and after experimenting with a few eventually started taking 2 a day early 60`s and am now late 60`s. I do find it manageable and last 2 Yearly check ups have been fine--only downside being increased holiday Insurance

I think I'm trying to find some miracle cure instead of cutting down on the booze. Idiot I know

May I ask what you're doing about it?
Nowt really. Like you I will probably be put onto tablets. My Dad had high BP so it's probably genetic. May have no other option....sadly.

You don’t have to stop drinking just cut down your intake, if your BP is exceptionally high then definitely take the advice from your GP , I’m on two tablets a day ( and have been for a few years ) , however I’m quite a bit / lot older than you , Best of luck mate whichever way you go !

What is the reading?

Stop drinking for 4 weeks and see if that improves your BP

good sleep 7/8 hours a night is meant to be very good for your health and likely BP also
Had a week off the drink after new year. After about day 3 slept great. Back in the old bastard routine now. Fookin love a drink and socialising so I've no excuses.

Just done it. 150 over 100.

Do you always use a home reading machine (assuming that is what you just used) perhaps try a pharmacy or your surgery, just to check your reading maybe. Those figures seem a bit high.
