High blood pressure

Anyone got any tips on best way to get it down? Been to the docs and they want to put me on tablets but I want to try and get it down naturally before I do that.
I'm 46 and probably drink about 40 to 50 units of alcohol a week which obviously doesn't help but I do get quite a lot of exercise. My diet isn't too bad. Never add.salt and I'm vegatarian. Thanks for all replies.

Ive been on blood pressure medication for 2 years now which is a kick in the teeth considering I'm in my 20s.

My advice, keep drinking to a minimum, don't smoke, make sure you eat healthy and organic foods (I know you said your diet is okay so hopefully you already do this).

Other than that make sure you exercise regularly, try to walk 10k steps everyday and reduce stress whenever possible.

Maybe go on a trail with your gp and have a checkup every 3 or 4 weeks whilst doing the above, if it lowers it then fantastic and keep it up, if not then go on the tablets until you find another solution.

Stop drinking, lose weight, exercise more.

Take the Doctors advice and tablets.

The graveyard's full of people who thing they know better than their Doctor.

I did all of those things, albeit for a dry January, with zero effect. I checked my BP every day. I found that work was the major factor. If someone pissed me off, my BP went through the roof. Things piss me off pretty much every day and I am not someone who seeks it.

I walk about 3 mile a day with the dogs then play golf and walk another 5 mile

Had a week off the drink after new year. After about day 3 slept great. Back in the old bastard routine now. Fookin love a drink and socialising so I've no excuses.

Just done it. 150 over 100.
That is fairly high for your age, about 20mmHg higher than normal for both systolic and diastolic.

Less alcohol.
Less salt, less sugar, less refined carbs, less processed food.
More potassium (bananas, oranges, spinach).
Less stress and more time relaxing and not drinking alcohol.

Have a read about the DASH diet.

All good advice from what people have said, it is on the high side but don’t stress yersel over it, mines been higher, but it’s important you bring it down. As everyone says good diet, reducing drink and exercise will sort you out.

You’ll not win that battle mate I tried .

Drink seems to have a catastrophic impact on it I’d the only thing I’ve noticed over the years.

This affects 1 in 3 people and many don’t know they have an issue.

Do everything.

Cut down alcohol, stop smoking if you smoke, exercise most days and watch your diet.

BUT

TAKE THE TABLETS NOW.

If you have to do the tablets, don't worry about it. I had stupid high blood pressure in my late forties, and I was cycling long rides and as fit as I've been, weight fine, diet ok, and nothing really shifted it. Started taking one low dose lisinopril once a day, it plummeted and has stayed at a healthy level ever since.

By all means do try all the suggestions first (def cut back on the drink, and maybe try exercise that gets your heart rate up a bit more than walking dog/walking at golf will do) but if it doesn't shift it don't hang about too long, you need to get your BP down sooner rather than later.

I’m too on trail from doctors as my average is 149/98. Don’t really drink. Eat ok. Only five a side every Tuesday. Could do with more fitness but I’m lifting blocks all day etc on my building even bricklaying. Annoys me sadly but I will have to tell doctors next week about those tablets as I refused to take them but seeing what people say on here.. and then googling it I didn’t realised it can be dangerous !
