Harry Gardiner in from South Shields

Yes and he will be set for life. What is more important struggling once your career is over or setting up a life yourself and future family. I know what I would do.
Before Roberts getting a chance here his career was in danger of fizzling out. Personally I'd want to achieve things in my career. I look at Jack Rodwell - money coming out of his ears but a rather sad figure who will always feel his career and potential was unfulfilled. So I guess its about having different priorities in life. Yes, they need to earn money but their life and their earning potential doesn't end at 30. Some players (in fact most) will be like you and just chase the money. Some players and their families will have different priorities. Who is to say which one is right,
Where are they going to grow more?

At an academy which struggles at u18/23 training day in day out with the best in class, the best facilities and the best loaning systems. Not every player will play first team football obviously for these big clubs but being there gives them a better shot of a career after with clubs in L1/L2 offering them contracts along with those clubs loaning these players.
Didn't we just win an U15 Cup?

Tbh, back in the 90's I knew a few lads who got a foot in at Sunderland and they thought they'd made it. It turned sour for them pretty quickly and they weren't making nothing like these young lads do now, but they were spending it as quickly on the wrong stuff.

A fool and their money is easily parted.

Tbf back in the 90's it wasn't unusual to see the likes of Mickey Gray, Andy Melville, Phil Gray etc in Annabelles a couple of times a week pissed up. No surprise the younguns followed suit.

How many off those players will be there by u18 level.. We won the u14 cup 4 years ago, where are all those players who were rated highly now?

I remember seeing Mickey Grey lying on the pavement kerb, totally pissed, just along from Idols. A few lads saw him, so flagged a taxi. They picked him up and hoyed him in the back seat.

The amount of times I saw Mickey Gray get a bat or hoyed down the stairs in Anabelles or somewhere else for being a twat or (his favourite) trying to tap someone's lass up is unbelievable.

Too simplistic a view

Let's go back to Roberts I'd say his career would have been better served at Fulham rather than being passed from pillar to post at Man City.

There are numerous offers who are leaving the Top Prem clubs Academies now as their pathway is blocked.

Again as above the player should do what's right for their career than just chase money

Aye, but they'd already made it. No one was going to tell George Best to not have a drink when he'd go out the next day and do the business. These young lads now can't get out of bed after a few blue WKD's!

Makes a change from him being hoyed down stairs.

Mickey Gray certainly hadn't made it at the time he was acting up in Annabelles every week. Melville and PG were, I wouldn't say made it but established.

At least 6 have been offered scholarships for a start. Yes offered, but could go. Still time for more to be offered.
Previous group actively sold by Donald, Methven and Reid.
Thats normal for any age group to be offered scholars within the u15 year.

Still playing in the senior squad mate. I'm mainly talking about these lads who've not even trained with the first team, but yet seem to think they've made it. Some don't see that the hard work starts after the contract and eventually f#ck it up.

So all young players should just look for as much money as possible at the detriment of the footballing career

I'm glad not all think only of the money like you
My kids are barbers and welders in their early 20’s.

I tell them to never chase the money and perfect learning from the right people then money will come to you .

any parent who can advise any other must be a bit thick and wet behind the lugs.

Must be doing ok.Nominated for PL2 player of the month and 5 goals in 9 games.

I know his Dad! I hadn't realised until a couple of weeks ago but my mates son is married to Harry's sister. Nice family.

I actually bumped into my mate, his son, Harry and his Dad at the turnstiles during half term about 13 years ago. I was working in Wrexham for the week and decided to drive to Birmingham for our midweek game. I sat next to them, good crack and a 1-1 draw I believe.
