Going teetotal

Has anyone on here done it? I do love a drink, I used to be a bit of a party animal but it all takes its toll dunnit?
I think at some point I'm gonna knock it on the head.
Long thread & I’ve only read the first post, but the after effects are starting to piss me off.

As you said, I love a drink, but I’m starting to wonder if the next day is worth it.

I hate drunk people when I’m not drunk. So the whole thing when people socialise when not drinking I couldn’t do.

Gigs are nowhere near as fun without a drink.

Issue is, it’s all or nowt usually for me. Nee point in having a few. Double figures or nowt.

I’m not drinking this weekend & am very happy about it. Painting today, bike ride with the bairns tomorrow. Makes a big difference when you don’t feel sorry for yourself.

Not tee total but I don’t bother unless it’s a special occasion now.

Next time will be a stag do in a couple of months time. I’ll be leathered after 4 pints.

I’m at the point where I hardly drink in the house anymore, it’s a can or two before I go out. I quite enjoyed lockdown sitting watching music on YouTube, but can’t do that too often.

Rarely drink for the sake of it. It’s usually a gig, maybe out for the match. Wedding next week. Problem is, there always seems to be lots of events in the diary

Gigs are the main culprit cos there’s a shit loads happening, which is great.

It must be an age thing.

My auld boy hardly touches the drink now. Would be regularly out fri, sat and Sunday afternoon.
Aye mate - I m 65 and fit as a fiddle - used to love a few pints and the craic. You aren’t as tolerant of drunken nobheads as you age ….. and precious days can’t be lost to hangovers.

Decided to try and do it again most I’ve managed is a few month in the past. Stopped drinking during the week a while ago just need to knock the weekends on the head, haven’t got an off switch once I start some days feel like I’m all sugar or all shite so gonna give it a go I’m 2-3 weeks in.
As folk say the hangovers get worse as ya get older and it’s just not worth it. When ya sober drunk people are usually a pain in the hoop as well so gonna have to change some socialising habits but pretty determined to give it a go.
When ya think how much drink is entwined in ya life man, I’m happy have a pint , I’m p1ssed off have a pint, I’m bored have a pint, meet a mate have a pint pretty sure if it was just invented now it would be more heavily regulated.

Since I've stopped I've also become more aware of how much we are battered and subliminally influenced by the advertising and marketing of alcohol in this country. Alcohol is sold as a signifier of enjoying yourself and having a good time, as if it's not possible to have a good time or enjoy yourself without the booze to confirm it. Many people now feel they need the alcohol part to acknowledge to themselves that they're enjoying themselves. This is obviously rubbish, people in some countries hardly drink at all yet seem to get on enjoying themselves just fine.

I hadn’t drank for months about a year ago but met up with the old lads in Preston for an afternoon drink.

I had 4 pints and struggled to walk straight - don’t know how I managed to catch the train home - was rough for days - 4 pints ffs !! Used to do that as a warm up !!

I did it for 11 years.
I packed in drinking alcohol in 2008 and never touched a drop until I had a pint 2019.

I packed it in, and honestly never missed the drink at all, during the time I was off it.

I packed it in for 6 months not long ago. It helped give me clarity and sort my head out through a difficult time. I do enjoy drinking though but the key for me is not to use it as medicine because that is counter productive.

I hardly ever touch the stuff now, just the odd glass of red with a meal. I got sick hangovers, they started to stretch into days 2 & 3, not worth it. Since I stopped the beer my weight & blood pressure has returned to normal.

Save it for when you're old
Aye. By then it may become a necessity.
Gassy stuffs out for me now. I’m trying to pluck up the courage to try some ales. Only in doors like. I wadnt want anyone out in public seeing me looking like a sad camra beardy folk music listening ale supping golf playing old misery guts. Firstly Ferret last neet. Just as bad as I expected but no reflux during the neet either.
James Dean, Sid, Jimi and Kurt weren’t so daft after all.

Couldn't go completely teetotal as I'd never see me mates otherwise and I can't stand being around pissed up people when I'm not drinking but other than a night down the pub every 2 or 3 months or so I don't drink at all now.

Absolutely hate drinking now in all honesty. Even just a handful of pints is enough to send me levels of anxiety and depression through the roof for at least a week afterwards.

I haven’t stopped completely but since Christmas I’ve probably not even had 20 units in total , if you’d told me a few years ago I’d be practically tea total I’d have thought that sounded like hell but honestly don’t miss it at all.
