Future cup games - fan experience and incentives to go

Make the first two rounds of both cups free for season ticket holders if drawn at home.
Club would lose a fortune as they get charged ticket money whatever happens.

If they wanted to give comps out for the first 2 games that's a minimum of £20.

With a season ticket list of 30,000 that's £600,000 down the pisser

Rather than penny pinching for our next home cup match the club should prioritise the fan experience, and as much as people say they don’t care what other fans think it doesn’t look good closing 70% of the stadium, also the player experience must be effected playing with only 1 and a half stands open.

Start by making it as easy as possible for season ticket holders to continue their habit of going using tech, and use incentives to encourage all fans to go
  • text, email etc to season card holder confirming their seat is waiting for them with a link to the basket that allows you to purchase in a couple of clicks
  • Trial an option for season ticket holders to add home cup games to your next renewal, this can be charged and included in your direct payments, anything not used can be rolled over to next season.
  • £15 special offer as a season ticket holder (i think this is minimum allowed in cup), extend offer to members for first 48 hours of tickets sales following season card period.
  • 1 or 2 loyalty points for attending (ticket must be scanned in) stating loyalty points will be used if any Wembley visit this season is oversubscribed. Someone mentioned boro offer 2, and I’m sure you get more caps with England for home games than aways which they put in place because the home friendlies etc were badly attended.
  • 50% off voucher for the club shop to be used on the day of the game on 1 item (encourage people to use the shop and some may buy more than one item)
  • Free pint and a pie before 2:30pm - encourage people to get in the ground early and some of these may buy additional pints etc after the free one
I get the argument that if you want to go you will go, but it was hard work from the off just buying the tickets and it must have put some off, it took me over 10 clicks to purchase a seat with a decent view for example which is ridiculous. and so limited choice many were waiting to see if they would open up more areas. At one point on Friday which was prime time for people deciding what to do at the weekend, the available seats was limited to a few hundred in the corner. The club put zero effort into any marketing or selling the tickets and all this created a we don’t care if you come feel about it.

We are creatures of habits as fans, make it as easy as possible to buy tickets, use incentivise to encourage people to go and put a bit effort into the marketing.
Let me sit in my comfy seat for cup games.

Complaining about having to make 10 clicks.
People want the club to pull out all the stops but you don't wanna do 10 clicks.

Treat it like a league game and gan for it including the team . Everybody knew the B team would be playing , so the support followed suit . I was there as the wife wanted me to go and visit some places where you can buy things , I think they are called shops or something fuck that ha way the lads
I was quite happy with the team to be honest, 5 changes,

Moore for patto fair I think considering Moore didn't do our wrong in the league.
Rigg in, not really a change just him coming back from injury.
Hjelde he's done alright when he's come on probably deserved a chance.
Jones has done well at youth level understand giving him a chance
Connolly if he's not going to play in fa cup 3rd round he's not going to play for us at all.

My issue is that when we took off Hjelde even though we had a centreback on the bench we brought on rusyn and put neil(who had already made a defensive howler) at cb. And onien at left back. All while we had mepham on the bench. It also meant that samed has to push higher up as there was nobody in midfield.

Stoke did aye

Playing Harrison Jones ahead of aleksic
Playing Trey ahead of isidor
Subbing off Mayenda instead of Connolly
Bringing on Zack Johnson ahead of Mepham
Bringing on Rusyn ahead of Jobe

Which one of these moves was trying to win the game?

Harrison Jones didn't look out of place.
Isidor rested after playing 5 games in 15 days and suffering cramp on numerous occasions. Could easily have popped a hamstring.
Mayenda ran himself into the group and was in a similar position to Isidor.
Did Zack Johnson make a mistake when he came on?
I'll give you the Rusyn sub.

We outplayed them for the majority of the game, and it was mistakes by Neil and O9 (fist teamers) that gave them the win.

Anyway, to answer the question I'd seen a very good suggestion the other day about rolling points up for attendance.

Something like attend round 3 get 1 point, if you've done that and we're at home round 4 you get 2 points. If you didn't attend round 3 you'd just get 1 for round 4. And so on and so forth.

It’s a loyalty programme, makes complete sense, but the points should be able to be exchanged for other things than just away tickets as of course the majority don’t do away games, hence its priority for cup finals or if not discount on club shop or food and drink etc

Not sure I’d have gone yesterday even if my ticket was free 😂, also we’ve had three home games in the last few weeks, it’s just after Christmas people haven’t got the money, I’d imagine if you’re taking a couple of kids to the game, tickets, transport, food and drinks would be the thick end of £100

Introduce a cup scheme where you get 1st couple rounds, if at home, for cheap. 15k there yesterday, yet it took longer to get in, more cramped on concourse to get something to eat or drink. Also roof leaking on loads around where we were.

Let's be honest we weren't really bothered about winning yesterday and the match wasn't exactly exciting. I'm not surprised people don't bother going and I don't think you can do anything to get a good attendance.
Being bothered would be a really good place to start.

Some decent suggestions by the OP, however I think for fan experience, it needs to come from the FA, where teams coming in at round 3, need to play say 75% of their starting 11 (injuries allowing) from say the past 5-10 games. I get it's squad rotation but gone are the times where teams play at full strength. Liverpool yesterday, was a prime example, playing a 16 yr old at home v Accrington, who wouldn't get a sniff, with being top of the league. I may be a cynic but I preferred it the old fashioned way.

The thing that needs to change is the FA dictating what clubs have to charge. All clubs should be on their case to change this as its clearly having a detrimental effect.

Once clubs can make their own decisions, they can look at special offers like season ticket holders get their seat for a fiver, kids can get a ticket for £2 etc.

Then we make getting tickets easy. Restricting where you can sit, knowing more will become available later is tragic in this day and age. I went on to get 1 adult and 1 kid at one point and just couldn't do it.

Then look at the experience, try doing different things, special food and drink offers, maybe pop up bars within.

I don't mind watching some of the fringe players getting a game for what it's worth, good to see them for a change and an opportunity for them. Milan's goal yesterday will probably do him the world of good.

Genuinely, why? Can understand that attitude in say, the season we got relegated from the Championship, but everyone is rightly singing the praises of this team as they’re flying and full of good honest young lads who bust a gut. Must’ve been pretty shit for them yesterday seeing an empty North and mostly empty West Stand.

Marra, you have just said that if the club you support gave you a free ticket to go and see them, you may not have gone. Lol emoji or not, thats not a good look mate.

He just said £100 for a family first week after Xmas and 3 games in a week.
The club make the decision for you through their attitude to the cup
I think we were lucky to get what we did

I've never needed an incentive to watch us, or to see us try and win a trophy.
I really struggle to understand why "Fans" need an incentive to support the team they are "fanatical" about.🤷‍♂️

Because not everyone is obsessed. It's just something to do on a Saturday then outside of that, a bit of banter at the pub or whatever. People have a life outside football and maybe they want to spend it elsewhere once in a blue moon and a cup game isn't attractive since we played the same team a few weeks ago...

I really don't understand what's confusing at why people don't want to watch a cup game against Stoke personally.

I can't stand this fairweather fan crap that's been made by the obsessed echo chamber on here who don't represent the fan base at all, especially considering the vast majority of fans don't turn up at all bar Wembley when we suddenly have demand for 60k+ tickets.

Dont pick a team that suggests you couldnt give a fook about the cup.
Change the whole ethos throughout the club of not giving a fook about the cup.
Fans change their ethos about the cup and not coming out with comments that they are happy to get knocked out by a team like stoke. Its cringey and absolutely embarrassing.

What if in his defence that game had about as much appeal as going to a pre season friendly or to an under 21 game the latter of which is free with a season ticket.

Thats what the FA Cup had become to fans of this club
