Future cup games - fan experience and incentives to go

Because not everyone is obsessed. It's just something to do on a Saturday then outside of that, a bit of banter at the pub or whatever. People have a life outside football and maybe they want to spend it elsewhere once in a blue moon and a cup game isn't attractive since we played the same team a few weeks ago...

I really don't understand what's confusing at why people don't want to watch a cup game against Stoke personally.

I can't stand this fairweather fan crap that's been made by the obsessed echo chamber on here who don't represent the fan base at all, especially considering the vast majority of fans don't turn up at all bar Wembley when we suddenly have demand for 60k+ tickets.
Mate, read what you have typed.

On the one hand you're saying not everyone is obsessed(i.e. fanatical), and then hoying words like "fanbase" around.

Fan means fanatic. A fanatic would take your arm off at the elbow for a free ticket for the FA Cup.

Nowt wrang with "wanting something to do on a Saturday afternoon" as you put it. Brilliant, because they get their Saturday out, and the club gets revenue.

A supporter, and great for the club.

Fan (Fanatic)???

The whole being able to use cash on the gate/not having to use Ticketmaster is a weak excuse, the ground is rarely full for cup games, that pre dates the club going digital.

Fan isn't an abbreviation of fanatic though.

It's just the origin of the word - they've got different meanings nowadays. There's no source more reliable than a dictionary.

- Fanatic for reference, there's definitely a few on here though.

That’s the point of the thread, it’s only gonna get worse so club should be looking at making it easy to attend with incentives
Dont know what else the club can do, ticket prices were slashed., and We have a decent home record. Bottom line is the club dont take the tournament seriously, snowy should the fans.

Never understood why the FA and clubs don't use the early rounds of the cup as an opportunity to hammer awareness of grassroots football / Sports science / healthy living and a gateway to local clubs

Allow any local football teams, School or Public to apply for discounted / free tickets and put on Stadium tours / meet and greet / photo sessions with the fringe / injured players, nutritional / sports science / show them training plans etc....

House them up in the PC, give them a 10% voucher off a Shirt, info on local connected sports clubs etc..

Give the next generation the opportunity to feel part of the club for some families who ordinarily wouldn't think of going or kids who wouldn't ask. Probably catch a few parents who have either dropped off going or never been also.

Fact is doesn’t matter what the club does, we all know we have zero chance of winning the cup, or even getting to a final, because it’s now a closed shop involving the top 4 or 5 clubs.

I went but only got my ticket on Saturday morning when I seen that they were available not far from where I sit in the Roker End. If my seat had been available from the start I would have got one strait away. I would much prefer to pay an extra £25 for my season ticket and then make it free for the first 2 rounds. If we get knocked out in round 3 or don’t get a home draw then roll it over. But with the way we are in the cups they would owe us around 10 games by now

This is it. Why on earth should fans be expected to take the cups seriously when the club doesn't?
I didn’t bother yesterday and look at the posts on social media, the queues to get in 5/10 minutes before kick off were a joke. That will put people off attending in future.

Brainless

Baffles me why they don’t just open all of the available turnstiles for people to enter.

It was an uninspiring tie, played just after Christmas, the weather was shit and the prices were too high to attract anyone but the most Uber of Uber fans. It could have been £10 if the clubs agreed it. Stoke have very rich owners who can afford to leave 3000 seats empty behind the goal each week rather than sell them to away fans, so the decision to charge £20 falls with the CEO.

Then there's the team selection. More than half the first choice XI didnt start, which shows disrespect for the competition. Had it been against a L2 club, then perhaps, but not against a side that beat us 2 weeks ago with a new manager in the dugout.

The performance - half arsed at best.

All in all, it wouldnt have been worth it at £10, so at £20, those who bothered must feel properly mugged off.

Another excellent idea.

But again, it would take time and effort and leadership from SAFC. They aren't interested

Rather than penny pinching for our next home cup match the club should prioritise the fan experience, and as much as people say they don’t care what other fans think it doesn’t look good closing 70% of the stadium, also the player experience must be effected playing with only 1 and a half stands open.

Start by making it as easy as possible for season ticket holders to continue their habit of going using tech, and use incentives to encourage all fans to go
  • text, email etc to season card holder confirming their seat is waiting for them with a link to the basket that allows you to purchase in a couple of clicks
  • Trial an option for season ticket holders to add home cup games to your next renewal, this can be charged and included in your direct payments, anything not used can be rolled over to next season.
  • £15 special offer as a season ticket holder (i think this is minimum allowed in cup), extend offer to members for first 48 hours of tickets sales following season card period.
  • 1 or 2 loyalty points for attending (ticket must be scanned in) stating loyalty points will be used if any Wembley visit this season is oversubscribed. Someone mentioned boro offer 2, and I’m sure you get more caps with England for home games than aways which they put in place because the home friendlies etc were badly attended.
  • 50% off voucher for the club shop to be used on the day of the game on 1 item (encourage people to use the shop and some may buy more than one item)
  • Free pint and a pie before 2:30pm - encourage people to get in the ground early and some of these may buy additional pints etc after the free one
I get the argument that if you want to go you will go, but it was hard work from the off just buying the tickets and it must have put some off, it took me over 10 clicks to purchase a seat with a decent view for example which is ridiculous. and so limited choice many were waiting to see if they would open up more areas. At one point on Friday which was prime time for people deciding what to do at the weekend, the available seats was limited to a few hundred in the corner. The club put zero effort into any marketing or selling the tickets and all this created a we don’t care if you come feel about it.

We are creatures of habits as fans, make it as easy as possible to buy tickets, use incentivise to encourage people to go and put a bit effort into the marketing.
None of this will matter, the club will lose even more money

It was a fairly shite experience from start to finish really. And that's from someone who's been to every home cup game for the best part of 50 years Inc league cup, pizza cup, full members cup etc
