Fundamentally

Our players turn up and think they are better than the opposition because they play for Sunderland, but once on the pitch and realise they are not, they can't adjust.

Taking away the red sauce. Caused endless bother ever since, even after reinstallation of the shit in the bait room.

Always getting it wrong:
1. Selling Henderson and not Ginger Jack
2. Hiring DiCanio who is crackers
3. Hiring Advocaat when we had a clear run and time to get a good long term appointment
4. Not signing Borini when he'd have fit in then signing him when he didnt!
5. Replacing Pickers with Camp and Steele...
6. D i FantiI
7. Bain
8. Grayson
....meh the list of terrible decisions is endless!
But in the interest of fair play & balanced views, we are bloody brilliant at it, Cluffy, son. Credit where it's due, marra.

In the last 20 odd years it’s been short termism, with all decisions being made to attempt some form of instant gratification. Parkinson’s appointment is the latest good example, ill thought out and motivated by one short term purpose only, promotion to allow for a quick sale next year.

Over the long term, there’s several factors. The decline of heavy industry and the continued economic & geographic isolation of the north east pay a large part. The prosperity of the South drives far greater investment into infrastructure and is more appealing to players and owners alike. Like it or not, the NE clubs are heavily tied into the fabric of the region and we get impacted disproportionately because of it.

Aside from hoping our politicians and councils have a good plan, the way the club could combat this is to develop a real identity. It’s been said before, but outside of the NE we dont seem to stand for anything other than failure, our illustrious past unknown. We really need to address this if we want to attract young talent.
Manchester is mingin

What is wrong with Sunderland Association Football Club?
its not rocket science.

the owner said it himself on the early podcasts. The team on the pitch is the most important thing and recruitment will be the key.

He even said recruitment, recruitment, recruitment....

Everything else is total noise. The takeovers, the parachute payments, the seats etc.

The owners are present unlike Short, but they're making similarly bad footballing decisions - the summer business has been damning.

In short, recruit well and everything falls into place. The scouting has been unimaginative and abysmal... EXACTLY like our premier league and championship signings post Allardyce, but with less ability.

Parkinson is the latest fall guy trying to get a tune out of Ross's plod FC.

Every transfer window is VITAL and we've had too many stinkers

Bobby Gurneys ghost is haunting for us first letting flag get tatty and minging and then it coming down altogether. Dont blame him. All the money we've spunked on awful footballers and we cant be arsed to change a flag of one of our greatest.

Its like the Mackem Field of Dreams, sort the flags out and the rest will follow. And serve some vegan bait at half time

We buy shit players.
I’ve been despairing at SAFC signings since the late 60s. From Colin Sym to this summers shit via Rod Belfitt, Ian Wallace, Gareth Hall, Jack Roswell etc etc........and hundreds of others. What sort of person gives the nod to the acquisition of these twats? How on earth did they find themselves in that sort of job?
It’s fuckin mind boggling. It really is.

Recruitment and scouting. But this isnt because we have been unlucky its that no one strategically has developed our scouting and recruiting departments to be good enough. Its all just hit and hope with signing players and crossing fingers that it works. We are still operating like its 1995. The footballing world has moved on and we havent a clue how to manoeuvre. The current owner is no better than the previous one. As you say all other matters are f***ing irrelevant

Id agree its obviously a lot more complicated and the elephant in the room at a higher level is that its all a stitch up with agents and networks, however at league 1 level its a little less so.

Parkinson nailed it when he said a few weeks ago that there's no options to keep the opposition defences on their toes. Every single team has some pacey athletic forward with varying abilities, but it doesnt matter because it keeps the opposition defence on their toes. They know long ball over the top and they will have to react.

Almost every game ive watched us play since the new owners came in, most opposition defences have their easiest afternoon of the season. I cant say anymore how disappointed I've been with the last two windows. Diabolical and money wasnt the whole issue. It was lazy short term thinking summed up by the full back from Millwall for example.

SAFC has consistently struggled to recruit well for decades because decent players with options tend not to want to come.
