Stability after 6 months of his first part season. Finished 12 points clear in the league with little or no money to spend in his second. Top scorers and 2nd lowest goals conceded. Exactly how does that 'sound pretty shite'? :)

Because its an absolute no-mark league. Everyone expected a better appointment and he doesn’t fit our requirements at all.

A mate of mine is a die hard St Mirren fan. Asked him for his assessment, in particular whether any manager could have had them promoted etc. This was his reply:

"You will not regret this appointment. He is a great manager. And if he wants to sign Stevie Mallan from Barnsley reserves let him get on with it. He's a great creative midfielder and dead ball deliverer who was appallingly underused during the Barnsley melt-down.

We are a well run club but we still have no money. In his 18 months, Jack didn't pay a single transfer fee, had to let last year's best player (Mallan) leave and this year's (Morgan) leave as well (albeit back to us on loan until the league was won). He benched the league's surprising top scorer (Reilly) at Christmas to bring in a new striker (Mullen) who was less surprising but more likely to score without the element of surprise. Oh, and Mullen came initially on a fee free pre contract followed by an accepting the inevitable from...... Livingston who, even without him, ended up second to us in the league.

He thinks strategically, is great with the fans, and reads the game in play brilliantly. Of all the Saints managers I've seen, the only comparator appropriate is Alex Ferguson.

And, finally, he's chosen cleverly with you. A play off place is par, a promotion better and a title, barring relegation, a guarantee of another two years whatever.

He could have gone to Ipswich and hung about mid table until they got bored. He didn't.

He will have a project with your team. I wish him well."

So we'll be winning twenty titles shortly - fukin champion - get used to 'Ross time' referees ffs

It is a poor league but he's been competing on pretty much a level playing field or worse to all other managers in that league and beat them all hands down. He could have hardly done any better and has been voted Scottish manager of the year.

You can only manage in the league you are in against the other teams in that league. Ross has done just that with magnificent resulrs. He is to be commended. Sounds to me like he's a winner. Alex Ferguson was a nobody outside of Aberdeen at one time but he came good. We've tried the better appointments route and the club just threw money at players who weren't motivated to perform. Time to renew and start afresh in a different direction.
