Always thought they were the preserve of the older generations. Me great uncles and me Grandad wadnt be seen dead without one. A "Best" for going out, a slightoly older one for running messages and an owld battered thing for going to the allotment or sorting the cree out

The bloke that wrote Andy Capp was interviewed years ago & he said the germ of the idea started at a Hartlepool match in the 50's. It started raining & one of the blokes he was with took his cap off & put it in his pocket. When asked why he said "Do you think I'm going to spend the rest of the night sat in a damp cap?"
